Profile Based Programmability
Previous review was wrong. Re-downloaded and loaded customization app which worked easily and well. First download was corrupted. Can use multiple profiles for various types of programmability which can be application specific or universal. Extensive menu of programmable functions or key stroke assignments. Device fits hand well, easy to use, and responsive to hand movements/gestures. Using wired trackball with multiple mini-pc's because wireless dongles do not work with powered USB hubs and require KVM or usb switch for such use. Good choice for single or multiple PC's with one pointing device. Comes in left handed also. Sorry about wrong review previously.

Will never buy another brand/trackball
I purchased this trackball as a wired alternative to my wireless Logitech M570. My primary reason to switch had to do with poor signal stability on the Logitech product. If the trackball was more than 3-4 feet away from the USB receiver plugged into the laptop the trackball would be sporadically unresponsive and jittery. I wanted to look for a wired Logitech option, but saw that it was not available and in the process came across ELECOM and their line of products. What attracted me to this particular model was the ergonomic design (it's not noticeably smaller, in my opinion, than M570 as others reported) and functionality given the presence of several buttons not found on the Logitech alternative.Amazon delivered the product fairly quickly and straight out of the box it has been great to use. The keys/buttons have a premium feel to them when pressed down and are responsive without being overly sensitive to touch, so no false clicks, as well as no extra effort as I would sometime need to exert with M570 (though that could just have been out of pure frustration with the quality of the signal on the M570).The trackball is just slightly smaller than M570, but not in any way that has impacted or affected my use of the product or its functionality.Much like M570, the ELECOM product features rubberized stickers on the bottom to ensure that it does not slide around the table and remains stationary.Overall, this is a great product and I doubt I'll go back to Logitech or another brand if I need another one of these in the future.Amazon shipped it pretty quickly

1.5 year lifespan?
Im getting a kensington. It did last longer than i thought. Order date says nov 2022. Broke down march 2023. The cursor stops time to time. I was getting annoyed but then just ordered a name brand *on its way! *update. Very durable. Working better today, still need reliability so two mice i shall haveAlso the mouse is only trackball. I thought it waa both (my own fault)

Best wired trackball i have found since logitech no longer manufactures
At work I CAN NOT use a wireless device on a computer. I had been looking for a good replacement trackball for years. Many felt like the buttons used mashed potatoes and were horrible. This trackball is smaller than my palm and hands would prefer/is used to when compared to the old Logitech wired trackball - however, that is no longer made. The buttons feel crisp and solid, the scroll wheel works well, and it has a third button on the far right side I have not figured out much use for yet. Now that I found a suitable wired trackball replacement, I purchased 2. One for work, one for home.

Well priced, good handling, comfy trackball
My son heard me talk about my preference for trackballs over a mouse so he wanted one to try out. He selected this one and used it for a couple of weeks before switching to a gaming mouse. I then inherited a new trackball. Happy days for me.I use this with my laptop so I don't need as much desk space as a mouse needs. I like the button placement and I love the feel of the thumb placed trackball. I have only used this with my work laptop so I have not used it for gaming. I do use it for 8-14 hours, several days per week and it has worked excellently. If you have not used a trackball, it might be good to try one if using a mouse makes your hand hurt. It does take a little time to adjust to the different movement but I think it is worth the time. This trackball is reasonably large similar to the older ones I used from another LOGIcal TEChnical manufacturer. I do not notice a significant difference in operation of the other brand trackball over this one. It is solid, works well, and has several more buttons. It is large which works well for my big mitts but wasn't comfortable for my son's smaller hands. While a great trackball for me, it might not fit smaller hands. One of my favorite features is that it is wired. There is no need for batteries but cord placement is the counterpoint.

Wonderful little trackball
Performs nicely, easy to use. Be aware that it is a Japanese product and the included documentation is in Japanese. The customization software also defaults to Japanese, but can easily be changed from a menu.

scroll button became less responsive
I like trackball mice and this one was great until the scroll button became less responsive. When scrolling it sometimes does nothing at all or scrolls slightly in the opposite direction, or scrolls more slowly than it otherwise should.

Poor software locks you out of advertised features
I've used Elecom trackwheels (M-XPT1MR) in the past, and generally find them pretty comfortable. They're not the sturdiest, but they hold up well enough that I didn't hesitate to buy another to replace my old one when a button was hanging off like a loose tooth after several years of use. However, the softwhere for this product refuses to let me assign a key to the ring-finger button (which is, to be clear, the main reason to buy this mouse). So it's 1 star from me.Update: According to the response from ELECOM in Q&A here, the ring finger is not customizable- bizarre choice* to make the fifth custom button to be the mouse wheel instead of the ring-finger rest, but I guess that's what they did? Just be aware that while there are several reviews that say the ringer-finger button can be assigned a function, that doesn't appear to be the case.*So bizarre that I'm keeping the one star rating- it's a bad design choice and the infographics about the mouse on the store page don't do a good job of showing that's the design. Literally all they had to do is label the buttons 1-5 on their last diagram.

Awesome trackball for small hands
I had a Microsoft trackball for over 20 years before it finally died. I was concerned about replacing it because I have small hands, and the few others I've tried have felt uncomfortable. This one is awesome! I love it. The material does not feel cheap either, it feels solid. I don't do much in the line of gaming anymore, so I can't really speak to it's gaming abilities, but the little bit of gaming I do, it works fine.If you have large hands, this might not be the trackball you need.

Accurate, Comfortble, Quality-made
I've been using trackballs since the mid 1990s, and this is by far the best quality I've used so far. With other trackballs I've had issues with poor sensors or the ball not sliding properly in its cradle. No problems like that here. Also, the two main buttons are a delight - easy enough to press, but not so easy that a twitch will trigger them - yes, I'm getting old and I twitch. Cleaning the lenses is also easier than I've seen from other manufacturers. The addition of a switch to easily change the speed of the mouse without having to dive into operating system configuration panels is a boon. I would highly recommend this device.
