A footprint is designed to take the wear and tear off the bottom of your tent and keep it in better shape over the long haul. It also provides additional water protection to keep you drier during wet weather. The footprint is designed to specifically fit the bottom of the Flash 3 and Flash 3 UL Tent so that it fits correctly and doesn't have any excess material outside the bottom of the tent. Excess material outside of the tent's dimensions will just collect rain water and pool underneath the tent, which is never a good thing.

The footprint seems to work fine so far
The footprint seems to work fine so far. I've only used it once but it was on some pretty rocky terrain in the desert. I'm sure my tent would have suffered damage without it so I am quite pleased with it at this point. It's a little on the heavy side if you plan to pack it in somewhere but If your also packing a Sierra Designs Flash 3 tent then I wouldn't leave home without it.

Impressive.
Good quality, looking forward to using it. A friend tried putting her fingernail through it and with no avail, NO puncture....IMPRESSIVE! Not worried about twigs and pebbles.

Light and effective. Pleased with purchase.
The pad is super light, but was effective. We ordered the footprint to go with our new, Sierra Designs 3-person tent, for a Patagonian adventure. (Sierra Designs didn't have the footprint in stock.) We were backpacking, so having it light, was important. The footprint protected our amazing, new tent from SD, and we were very happy with the footprint and tent!I gave this review 4 stars, because the footprint didn't fit the bottom of the tent exactly. The somewhat sizable gap was at the edge, though, and it didn't seem to detract from its functionality. (Perhaps this footprint was for an older or newer designed SD tent?!)I would purchase this again, if needed.
