A study of human nature
A good selection of her work. Thoroughly detailed without being garrulous, the characters and the style of speech are captured beautifully. As is the era.

Old and New Stories
A nice collection of novellas that shows the burgeoning talent that we've come to love. Most of the stories are character studies, more vignettes of the human condition. As if Ms. Heyer was practising her art.

georgette heyer
The editing was appalling. Five stories in the collection were slow and not her best works. I have really enjoyed her works prior to this collection. Perhaps if the editing wasn’t so bad that the stories were difficult to read, it might have gotten another star.

A little something for everyone...
This book contains five early offerings from Georgette Heyer, an author I very much enjoy reading. These stories are varied by era - from an account of the reign of England's King Charles II to the perils of an innocent, young flapper in the early 1920's (Heyer actually wrote Instead of a Thorn in 1924 at the age of 21). It's interesting to see how her style and perspective changed over the many decades of her career. She is a talented writer and I found all the stories fun to read to varying degrees. I recommend.

A must for the Heyer fan
I bought this rare collection to back up my hard cover books.I was thrilled to find these stories as Ebooks. Due to arthritis I find it difficult & painful to hold a hardcover. Now I can re read my favorite author once more.TY Amazon

the greatest author of regency tales
Georgette Heyer is the standard that all good regency tales are based on. Not all her stories are romantic. Many are tales of the napoleonic war or regency life. Everyone whos interested in historical novels should read her books.

Inhalt gut, aber Buch leider zu schwer.!
Zwei Titel waren leider nur in diesem dicken Wälzer zu haben, Unangenehm zu halten.

Traditional Regency Romances
I always enjoy Georgette Heyer. A good read, often exciting plots with handsome heroes and lovely heroines. This set of five books was published in the USA and could have done with a bit more proof reading as there were some definite typos. However, this did not detract from the stories.

Some of the worst of hers I have read and full of hundreds of typos
I usually enjoy her works but not these, boring characters and. Too much politics in the second one. Simply don't bother

Simply wonderful
Loved these stories. Only negative would be the atrocious number of typos … it was so bad there were times I couldn’t understand what was being said, what was meant or who was saying what!! Apart from that, I loved the emotional depth of the stories and the development of the characters. It is a real pleasure to read Georgette Heyer. However, I definitely prefer the written version.

Recommended for serious georgette heyer fans
This collection of early georgette heyer works is an interesting demonstration of how her writing developed and matured over the years. While not as amusing or polished as her later works, the stories show a steady progression of her wit and humour and should not be missed by true georgette heyer fans. If you are not a fan yet, do not start out with these stories however; wait until you are hooked on her later, more polished stories and then you can more fully appreciate these early ones.
