OK-didn't really evoke enough "Iron Maiden" nostalgia for me to love it
I've been a huge Iron Maiden fan for over thirty years, but I'm not really big into graphic novels, so that may affect my rating. I'm guessing the intended market for this was Iron Maiden fans, so I'll assume you know the references to their zombie-mascot Eddie and various albums and songs. Unfortunately, I didn't find these added up to enough to make this anything special for me.The plot is that the devil (or even someone more sinister) has stolen pieces of Eddie's soul and he has to fight various villains to reclaim them. It pretty much plays out like a video game, I suspect because it was written to tie in with Iron Maiden's recent Legacy of the Beast video game. Now, if the artwork was close enough to the album covers and they brought various Iron Maiden artwork scenes to life, I think I would've enjoyed this a lot more. However, despite the frequent description of Iron Maiden's classic album covers as "comic-book horror," the fact is they took a bit more time (as well as the personal touch of one Derrick Riggs) than is going to be put into drawing the many panels of a graphic novel, and it shows. The Eddie drawings in this book just don't make the same impression as the album covers (although I'll admit the devil is a pretty good replication of the one on the Number of the Beast artwork). The plot doesn't really evoke the covers or "feel" of Iron Maiden, either. (Considering the story-telling nature of their songs, not to mention many of them are based on books, movies, and history, I feel like they SHOULD be a band one could base a story on). Eddie doesn't talk, so most of the dialogue is the somewhat sarcastic dialogue of his guardian angel ("How's it hanging?" she asks as she finds him chained to a tree in the beginning). This was to Iron Maiden what the Ewok Adventures was to Star Wars-a bit of extra fun for someone who's happy with anything associated with their favorite stuff, but a minor effort in comparison to the real thing. I mean, it's an hour's read, and if you're into graphic novels this may resonate better with you, so what the hell. Personally, though, I'd rather spend my time reading the various books and poems that inspired Iron Maiden or gazing at their awesome album covers. Maybe if Steve Harris wrote an 11-minute epic about the plot for the next album, I'll go back and enjoy this more.

Only thin
Purchased this for my brother for Christmas so it's a little difficult for me to review. It's nicely drawn but isn't very thick for the money but after saying that it's what my brother wanted so I know he will be very happy with it. It's a pity that when I've ordered volume 2 that Amazon have taken the money but won't give me any idea on a delivery date.

Good if you can overlook the grammatical errors.
Good story, art wasn't too bad though a few spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. Recommended anyway as it's Iron Maiden.
