Synopsis Save Me Too picks up 17 months after the close of season 1. The furore over Jody's disappearance has subsided, but Nelly's desperation to fi nd his daughter drives him relentlessly on. Gideon Charles (Adrian Edmondson) has been put on trial for the sexual grooming and exploitation of Grace, the young woman Nelly rescued while searching for Jody. Could Grace provide clues to Jody's fate, or will she derail Nelly's quest? New suspects will be revealed and long buried secrets unearthed as Nelly is torn between protecting Grace and keeping alive his search for Jody. Also starring Lesley Manville & Stephen Graham.

"I found you and that means I can find her"
First time viewers would be well advised to watch Lennie James's "Save Me" before embarking on this Series as what has gone before is crucial to understanding what happens in "Save Me Too".Nigh on eighteen months has elapsed since Nelly Rowe rescued Grace from the clutches of a paedophile ring whilst searching for his own estranged teenage daughter Jody who had been abducted for grooming purposes. The leader of the gang Gideon Charles is on trial for offences involving Grace who is the prosecution's star witness - the trial collapses and Charles is formally acquitted of all charges. Some short while later he is found dead and the Police investigation centres on both Grace and Nelly as being somehow involved.Since rescuing Grace Nelly has been continuing his searches for his own daughter relying on information that Grace has been able to provide from the duration of her abduction. In this he's also dependant on the disparate characters who are the regulars at The Palm Public House plus his former wife Claire (Suranne Jones in yet another of her trade-mark roles of stressed out women that she so excels at) who is finding it increasingly difficult to cope with life after her daughter's disappearance. There is a secondary plot line involving the now pregnant Bernie and her partner Melon (again another outstanding contribution from Stephen Graham) who has himself a history of paedophilia albeit from years gone by as Bernie starts to wonder whether Melon is likely to revert to his earlier behaviour once they learn that Bernie will be giving birth to a daughter.Eventually Nelly is able to trace his daughter's whereabouts and restores an almost catatonic Jody to her family. This causes him personal conflict in trying to rebuild a relationship with her whilst at the same time carrying out his promised continuing commitment to Grace in the light of the ongoing Police enquiries. Finally he makes a decision that brings everything to a conclusion and which serves as a justification for the use of the title "Save Me Too".The South London area in and around Deptford again features strongly and for once a view of The Shard is employed for dramatic purposes rather than just being an excuse to show a notable London landmark. The Palm Public House with it's regulars is the epitome of a South London boozer - one just wonders if we will ever be able to experience it's like again any time soon.Lennie James can be justifiably proud of this endeavour (this time around he scripts four of the six Episodes as against five from Save Me) and he has been richly rewarded by the top notch performances from all the supporting cast. Special mention must be made of Indeyarna Donaldson-Jones and Olive Gray who play Jody and Grace respectively and who display a standard of acting skills far beyond their tender years. There is a long scene in Episode Five when Jody undergoes a medical examination after her rescue which is a particularly tough watch but it is carried out with such sensitivity that it's inclusion at such length is entirely warranted.I personally hope that Lennie James has other personal projects in mind and if so that he is given the opportunity to bring them to fruition. Clearly there's a lot more to him over and above his acting talents which are themselves pretty impressive.Audio and Subtitles : English onlyExtras : Picture Gallery

Excellent
Unable to watch Save me Too when it came out on the Atlantic channel (I think) which I couldn't get, I waited eagerly for the DVD to be released and I wasn't disappointed. So well written, gritty and brilliant acting by the whole cast. Edge of the seat stuff at times and a surprise ending which could lead to Series 3 (yes please).

Best of British
Brilliant acting with two of my favourites: Stephen Graham and Lennie James. This programme tackled sensitive issues and equality and diversity beautifully, with respect and acceptance.

This is good but not quite at the level of the first series. Firstly, I never got why this is set 17 months on from the end of the first series. I mean, why 17 and not 18 months? In fact, there is little to catch up on and it might as well be set 17 days later. Secondly, Nellie's tirades and emotional outbursts over a missing daughter he's never really met are beginning to wear thin. And third, Grace, the saved girl, from the first series is a weak point in an otherwise strong cast. I also never got what attachment Jody built with her father given she'd never met him. And the Melon and Bernie saga just dragged on.But for all that it's a compelling tale of child exploitation set against a grimy south London setting centred around th community of Nellie's pub. Nellie cajoles ever increasing favours from his friends and stumbles ever onwards in his search for Jody. Most series would probably have ended at episode four where there is a denouement of sorts. But this bravely soldiers on to try to give us a different ending and a sense of what happens next. It mostly works although the very last scene struck me as unlikely. All watchable enough but, for me, not as good as series one.
