CianoCF20 Filter for Aquariums, 5-20 L, High Performance, Easy Install, Reduced Maintenance

This is a poorly made filter. It consists of three sections and they do not fit together very well. The whole cartridge system is a waste of money gimmick but I knew that and just wanted a small filter with adjustable flow and I just wanted to use sponge inside. Well, it was pretty easy to fill up the inside with sponge of varying densities, so that’s good, but as I say, the different sections do not fit together very well. They are either too difficult to get apart or come apart too easily. Coming apart too easily will not improve with age so I expect the loose seal between two sections to fail at some point. The seal that’s too tight just makes servicing the filter a faff and the force needed to pull the sections apart will most likely result in breakage at some point. There are two holes in the casing above the sponge compartment and directly behind the impeller intake. Water follows the path of least resistance so a lot of the water is entering through these holes rather than going through the slots in the bottom section and through the filter media, and this is just very inefficient. Also, I bought this filter to replace a filter that was starting to rattle a bit after many years of faultless service…this one rattled from day one! The flow rate adjustment works well but that’s really the only positive. This is the first and last Ciano product I will buy.

I have very noisy CF40 that came as a bundle with aquarium. All my fish died within 48hrs of purchasing them. Twice! (I cycled the aquarium and had water tested three times - all seems ok). Second time I removed all the decorations (only left heater / filter) thinking they may be releasing something toxic. All fish still died within a day.So I wanted to replace CF40 with quieter and less powerful filter (maybe this causes stress for fish?). Sadly CF20 is not any better - it is actually even louder than CF40.CF20 came with UK plug. The motor/propeller is identical for CF20 and CF40 (same unit shared for both models). Therefore also output is exactly the same (on paper CF40 is spec'd as 200L/h whereas CF20 up to 120L/h). But they are both the same and produce very strong flow.CF20 has plastic cap that will block some of the flow (variable) but this makes the whole filter even louder and vibrates more as it tries to push water out.You can remove the cap and then both CF20 and CF40 will be identical in terms of flow.I will try another brand now - Elite Stingray.

I am very frustrated with this purchase as it is being sold to the UK market but comes fitted with a 2 pin style Euro plug and NOT the standard 3 pin style UK plug (as of 29th November 2020). There is no plug reference at all as of date of this review. This should be made clear in the advert so that people have a choice as to whether they want to purchase and subsequently use with an adapter. I can not comment on the functionality or quality of the item as I haven't used it - I may return it!
