Genuine blackwood today is rare and expensive. African Blackwood was imported and used in Ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. It is a very hard, dense, and stable hardwood, prized for its use in making musical instruments (like bagpipes) and knife and sword handles. Blackwood is easy to confuse with ebony wood, but is technically in the Rosewood genus.

Simple, affordable sgian dubh
This is a basic sgian dubh with a plastic handle and sharp steel blade. The sheath is stitched leather and sits comfortably under one's kilt hose.

Much smaller than I expected
It's a cute little knife, but hardly a Sgian Dubh. Perhaps a scale model of one...

Nice for the Price
I purchased my sgian dubh for a highland games. I was on a budget and thought this would be a good starting point. When I received and unboxed the knife, I was pleasantly surprised. The sheath was high quality and the blade itself was super sharp. The handle is made of two pieces of molded plastic and has some visible seems. I buffed it down for a more polished look. For the money, I am completely satisfied.

Good for what it is
I use it in my cab for protection, It is sharp, sturdy and can be easily secreted away in the car and is of legal size in Illinois. The only slight flaw is the ribbed section on the base of the blade on one side. It is totally unnecessary.
