Q: Is this a universal base tht fits all parasol thanks

Dont buy this item. It is ridiculously fragile. It will not hold anything other than the daintiest umbrella and will probably break in the first stiff breeze. Mine was broken on arrival and the seller had a terrible attitude about a refund. Buy a metal cross brace base and a weight bag. Fill bag with gravel or sand. Much better

Q: How does the clamp screw work -- does it just dig into the parasol stem, or does it have some way of gripping the whole stem without crushing it?

There are three different inner clamps depending on the size of your parasol..together with the screw it grips firmly without crushing. I really recommend this base well worth the money

Its not huge but big enough for parsol a paving slab size

Q: Can anyone tell me the width of the pole to place the parasol in? My table has a low base plank with a hole 5cm wide it would have to pass through..?

I believe its 40 mm but save your money. Its as fragile as a flower vase. Mine arrived broken and the seller had a shocking attitude
