Works against carpenter ants
This worked so well. My neighbor has a dead tree right next to my house that has a carpenter ant colony. As a result the ants keep coming into my home, including the flying ones to try and establish a satellite colony. I used this, along with a light trap (for the flying ones) and granular ant bait along my fence line, and within 2 weeks I had significantly less ant activity. Now most ants I find inside are already dead. I do live in florida and with it being rainy season I did need to reapply about 2 months after the first application outside. But if you live in a drier climate it should last much longer. As an added bonus, it also works against other bugs like cockroaches!

Got an ant problem? Not anymore you don't!
This stuff is much better than the Terro pellets, which just sit around the affected areas and don't seem to do much at all. I coated down the few colonies I found around the yard this summer and within two days I wasn't seeing them anymore. After a weekly check and subsequently a small collapse of an unmaintained colony, I found it to remain effective at killing the colony. My only complaint is to be careful about the application site because this compound will either discolor or inhibit the grass from growing if applied on it. EDIT (10/1/14): This product does not kill the ants, but will instead irritate them so they do not want to be around it. The colonies I used it on just seemed to be resurfacing in other areas. As I confirmed, the EPA has more restrictions in the chemicals that can be used and these new versions are less effective in order to meet those requirements. I have used instead another remedy that is cheaper to make, but can be more harmful to small animals as well as small children. Borax powder and corn syrup do a wonderful job of killing off most types of Ants. Mix ~50:50 ratio of borax to corn syrup on a small piece of paper or piece of card stock and leave near the paths the ants use. The sugars attract them so they feed and bring the chemical back to the colony, killing the colony in the process. This version only works indoors and should not be used if pets or small animals can access it. For an outdoor remedy, sprinkle a small amount of borax powder at or near the mouth of the colony if visible. If needed, place some in the mouth of the colony and add a few drops of water to disperse the mixture and keep it from being removed from the hole. That produced results noticeable within an hour, compared to 24 hours or so of waiting for the Terro mix to kick in (which was only keeping them from using exits where the powder was placed, not killing them off).

It Works
I've used Terro in a couple of my homes, and it does what it claims: Gets rid of ants. It doesn't work overnight. The ants have to take the powder back to the nest so others eat it and eventually die. In the meantime, there are ants which don't eat it right away and continue to appear in the house. Eventually, though, usually within a week, no more ants! It saves calling an exterminator.

Does NOT Work Good
This Dust does not work as good the Ortho brand. I bought this one because of the prize and lot more amount than Ortho. It bothers the ants and they seem to die for a day , but then they are back..tried it on several mounds. also tried several days on same mounds but ants come back. Maybe is diluted. do not recommend it.

So far so good
Weโll see how well it works long term. But I have an insane amount of ants outside. They were all over my driveway and burrowing in every expansion joint of the concrete. I dumped this in all the joints and within hours their presence greatly decreased. Itโs been over a week now and there are significantly less visible ants.

So far so good, messy, but doing better than commercial pest control
I am using this to control some tiny but nasty little "sugar ants" that gave a big "don't care" to a commercial pest control treatment. I worry a little about a product that is active over a relatively long time period, and it is a bit messy, so I prefer to not use this indoors. Ordinarily, it is a bad idea to mix insecticide treatments, but this powder complements inert diatomaceous earth products well -- the diatomaceous earth helps to contain "ant caravans" to a limited area, and then use this "killer powder" to knock them down.
