Great for germinating "fussy" seeds.
After one seedling starting season I can recommend these pads highly. They are well made, and, when paired with a controller and temperature probe, give precise bottom heat to flats of seeds or cuttings. I succeeded with the germination of some seeds that had failed to sprout for me before.

Seeds sprouted in two days!
I was BLOWN AWAY, yes you heard me right, BLOWN AWAY when I planted some pink zinnias and purple basil TWO DAYS AGO and they sprouted using these mats. I ordered the two pack during Black Friday $17.60 - should have ordered more, if I knew how amazing these were, dang it. Now I have to wait for another sale!! I am using these mats in combination with another Black Friday purchase I've made, the Bstrip DIY Plant Shelf on Amazon ($169), and these two products together has changed my plant-growing and cooking hobbies forever! To sprout my seeds I use tofu containers because they are nice and square and fit on these mats well, and they are cheap because I already have them and when I am done they can go into the recycle for plastic. I drill holes into the bottom, that's the only real work using the tofu containers. I can get 8 tofu containers onto one mat. I use a sterile seed starting formula like Jiffy, wet the soil thoroughly in a bucket, press the soil into the tofu containers to allow excess water to drain out. To plant my seeds, I use a rounded chopstick to poke holes into the soil, and a fine tweezer set such as the 6 pcs Kaverme fine precision tweezer set $6.99 (also purchased on Amazon), then cover the seeds, place the tofu containers into BlueSky Multi-Purpose Food Storage Bags Gallon size $4.96 (Amazon) and use the twist ties to seal. I like this set up because I don't have to worry about water getting onto my floors and the plastic bags serve as mini-greenhouses to speed up germination. I've also started to place my water propagated plants onto the heating mat to speed up root formation as I've seen a lot of gardeners do on social media. I use these heat mats also for my sourdough starter, which has been great because the bottom heat is just right enough to speed up the fermentation without having to use my oven/light. I've tried placing sourdough starter in my garage, but it's still not warm enough, and I live in the tropics!

Works perfectly!
At first I thought this wasn't even working because it didn't feel noticeably warm. But then after leaving it on overnight under a filled seed tray, I could easily feel the warmth. It's such gentle heat that it just takes a while to get the soil up to temperature, but once it does, it creates a good 15 degrees F or more difference between the soil temperature and the surrounding air temperature. Last year many of my seeds failed to germinate and I suspected that they rotted in the cold damp soil. My house just isn't warm enough in late winter/early spring to get seedlings going. But this product kept the soil pleasantly warm to the touch, and I had seeds sprouting in just two days! Then the seedlings grew like gangbusters in the warm soil--in fact, they grew so fast I had to take the heat away so they wouldn't get too big before it was safe to transplant them to my garden! One tip I learned: the heat is of course going to be highest in the middle of the seed tray, and the cups along the sides that are more exposed to open air will be coolest. So it's a good strategy to plant heat-loving seeds (tomato, pepper, eggplant) in the middle and cool-tolerant seeds (spinach, broccoli, lettuces, radishes) along the sides. Also, since this speeds up germination and growth so much, you might want to plant a little later than you usually would! Otherwise, like me, you might get plants actually starting to blossom in your window in mid-April!

No adjustable thermostat!
There is NO adjustable thermostat on this! It warms 10 to 20 degrees f above the ambient room temperature. I actually found mine more than that and had to put spacers between my trays and the mat. With the spacers my 60 degree ambient room temperature rose to 85 degrees (without it was over 90 degrees) in the tray. That being said I paid zero attention to the existence (or lack thereof) a thermostat, so bad on me. Since I'm managing with minor adjustments I am keeping them, but be aware. If my system were larger or I had less time I would strongly recommend an adjustable thermostat. Otherwise it's working for me.

High quality heat mats for seed starting.
I am very happy with these heat mats. I am controlling these mats with a Vivosun timer. The combination works flawlessly. The temperature control is acceptable and with the controller, very adjustable. They do not heat quickly. For me, that is ideal. They do not draw a lot of power while warming, and seem to not take much electricity to maintain the temperature once it reaches the setpoint. That is excellent. I have used Vivosun heat mats and timers in the past and expected them to still be high quality. That is exactly what I found. Very easy to use. I have never had any problems with them and they get water all over them almost constantly with timed watering. No issues at all. I keep the timers elevated out of the water spray, so the critical connections always stay dry. I am a fan of Vivosun products and will purchase them in the future.

Good heating mat
Good value for the money. Kept seedlings warm for days while sprouting. Love that it came in a 2 pack. Easy to use, plug in and you’re on your way.

Great seed starting pads
The pads provide an excellent amount of heat to germinate new seeds. Needs extension cord if you are at any distance for an outlet, water spilled on the pads did not cause any issues.

These are great
This is my second set - ordered because I can't remember where I stored the first ones, which I have had about 5 years. My tomatoes and peppers sprout within a week, often less. I wipe them down when not in use and they still look brand new. I fully expect the first set to be found shortly, lol.

Not for use in Ireland, Wrong Voltage
Heat really well. However its an American plug rated to 120volts, dangerous in Ireland and the UK. Using this at 240volts brings it to 80watts, the matt is rated to 20watts. Good but not suitable in Ireland unfortunately unless you splash out on a transformer per matt.

Zufrieden
