I relied heavily on Amazon reviews for this purchase
Listen up, everyone! A yoga mat is a purchase that cannot be fully appreciated right away. And so, these reviews, I think, are pivotal to the decision making process. To buy or not to buy, that is the question. Now, I'm not the biggest yogi. I'm a casual yoga participant. I usually get one or two sessions a week. Sometimes I don't go at all. Sometimes I take the beginner class, sometimes I participate in yin, or hatha flow, or one time a poorly chosen deep vinyasa that I thought I could handle but was wholly unprepared for (that instructor was no joke). What I'm saying here is that I know enough to be a decent judge of yoga mat for casual use. I felt a need to upgrade from my first yoga mat, and so I set out. Let me list the reasons why I bought this mat: -I wanted a thicker mat because my bony knees and butt were beginning to hurt. This mat is 1/4 inch thick, and it has made a big difference in how I feel both during and after the class. I am able to focus more now that it doesn't hurt as much, and I have less pain and stiffness as I walk out of the studio. Note: There was a small learning curve for standing poses since this mat offered a bit less resistance than my old 1/8 inch mat. Which is good, it makes me work harder at balancing. Now I don't even think about it.- I wanted a mat that was cute but not showy. My subdued grey colored mat with skeletons demonstrating various yoga poses fit the bill perfectly. Plus, I get a lot of compliments on it. It's fun to look over the various skeletal arrangements, but not so distracting when I need to focus and breath.- The mat had to be long but not too long. I'm a tall-ish gal, and I was tired of my heels hanging off the mat. But, I'm sure we've all experienced squeezing into an overly full yoga studio, so I didn't want my mat to be obnoxiously long. Again, this mat offers a good balance.- I was looking for affordability. I was not going to break the bank for a yoga mat, and this mat didn't make me dig deep into my wallet. Now, to the part you may be waiting for.Is. This. Mat. Slippery?Answer: Kinda.Let me explain. My first yoga session with this bad boy offered me less resistance than I had hoped for. I executed a few pitiful downward dogs before I admitted to myself that it was my mat's fault, not my muscles. As my palms slid forward and I scurried to right myself before I transitioned into baby cobra , I knew that something had to be done.Full disclosure, after class I googled a yoga mat spray recipe, made it, spritzed it on my mat, and hoped for the best. We're talking water, witch hazel, and essential oil, nothing too crazy.Eventually, a few classes in, I didn't think of my mat as too slippery anymore. Not sure if it was the mat spray, not sure if it was smudged up from a few uses, not sure if my body just adapted to it. But I find my mat to be perfectly usable now.Would I recommend this mat. Yeah, I would. I've been using it for a bit under a year, which I feel is enough time to make a final decision on whether I like it or not. Is it the best yoga mat out there. No. But does it suite my needs. Absolutely.

I really like this mat
I really like this mat. It looks sexy and it cushions very nicely. Probably the best mat I've owned so far, during my 3 year yoga practice. Of course, I've seen better, but I'm still in my processes of becoming a more committed yogini. Perhaps once I get there I will be willing to pay the 80 dollars of a super fancy yoga mat. For my basic - intermediate level this mat is perfect.Pros: it cushions better my knees and back than other mats in the same price range, it does not stretches like play-do and its also not completely fixed - it has just the right elasticity to support my feet, knees and hands in bending positions, size is perfect for me (if you are supper tall I don't know you will think the same), its wide enough so that my hands are not hanging out all the time, its not so wide as to take 1 spot and a half in the room.Cons: it was smelly when it arrived. I wish I had thought about it. I was so excited when I received it that as soon as it arrived I put it in my yoga bag and took in same day to class. Terrible mistake! It made me dizzy of how bad it smelled. The good thing is that that issue has an easy solution: wash it when it arrives, or at least leave it out to get some fresh air. Next time I came to class after leaving it out for about 2 days, the smell was very soft and now after about 20 hours of practice, two times of cleaning it, and 20 nights of fresh air the smell is completely gone. And yes, I'm optimistic that I will have mat for hopefully some years.

Quite slippery, otherwise wonderful
I read the other reviews for this product and saw quite a few that remarked on the slipperiness of the RatMat before I decided to go ahead and buy it anyway. I figured that, since I don't sweat too much, it shouldn't be a problem - and I absolutely love the design on the mat! However, upon using it for the first time, I, too, slipped all over the place. I feel that it would be less of a problem if my arms, abs, and back were stronger - but because of work and school, I had fallen out of my workout routine and lost most of my muscle. Whether or not I'm right that it's a muscular problem seems a bit moot, since I can't use it much to build muscle, though!I read online that washing my mat - either by hand with a gentle soap or even in the washing machine sans bleach! - can help with slipperiness, so my intent has been to do so. (I might even go the rock climber's route and try using chalk - who knows? At worst, I'll have to wash a bit of chalk off my mat.) However, a friend of mine who has used three different yoga mats (at least) (two were lost during different moves, which is why she cycled though mats) told me that she has never had to wash a yoga mat to reduce slipperiness before, and I am beginning to agree with the other reviewers that the problem is the mat, not me. Next time I buy a mat, I plan to buy Gaiam brand - my friend loved her Gaiam mat and said that the thickness (my concern, and the sole reason I didn't get a Gaiam mat to begin with - was not a problem whatsoever). Unfortunately, the slipperiness makes the mat almost unusable - I spend more time readjusting than I do actually doing yoga!Otherwise, the RatMat is perfectly decent. It emitted a slight plasticky smell when I first opened it, but that was almost completely gone by the end of my first hour on the mat. The pattern is beautiful, the length is great (I'm fairly tall, and I often end up working my way off mats by accident), and the color is gorgeous. Here's hoping that it gets sticky when I wash it - then it would be basically perfect!

Good yoga mat that stands the test of time!
Great Yoga mat. Not a lot of options out there for boys that want to partake in Yoga, so this was a great option for my teenage son so he didn’t have to have a plain mat. Has been used 50+ times over two years and in excellent condition with no wear to the mat or the pattern. Recommended buy for sure!

Nice
I bought this to replace my old yoga mat which was becoming a bit worn. It's just the right thickness, considering I have quite a hard floor, so it provides substantial comfort whilst doing poses on the knees and back. The array of designs are nice, I chose the skeleton one which is quite unique. Good that it's eco-friendly too at a decent price. However it loses a star as it doesn't provide much grip when your hands become slick with sweat, which isn't ideal whilst during an intense practice. For example in downward dog, I find that my hands begin slipping forward which is quite frustrating. Overall I am pleased with the mat and I do recommend it, but be wary about the grip factor.
