Great Way to Get to Know Gin
Lately I feel like the most interesting--and delicious--cocktails on the menu are all made with gin. Maybe it's a summer thing. Or maybe this book about gin's revival knows what's going on.The design is nice and modern and the pictures are great. It will look good sitting on my food & wine shelf, and it got more than a few oohs and aahs from my Labor Day house guests (I guess Amazon jumped the gun on the Sept. 17 release date). The book is divided into four parts: history of gin, a section on the mechanics of gin (how it is made, different types, etc.), a big section with reviews of individual gins, and some cocktail recipes. In the reviews section, hubs and I had fun looking for the gins from places we've been or and the ones we've tried‑or the ones we want to try (Dactari gin, with your insect woman on the bottle, get in my liquor cabinet). My favorite section was probably the history, particularly the medical uses of gin (such as juniper to ward off the black plague‑-spoiler, it didn't work) and women and gin. Apparently the spirit created quite a few career opportunities for London ladies. The recipes look good too, especially the gin and tonic pairings, although I haven't had a chance to try any yet.Whether you've always been a gin fan or, like me, you've recently discovered a love of gin, definitely check this book out.

I highly recommend this book
I highly recommend this book. Not only is it well researched and written, but the page layouts, beautiful illustrations, and photos so well chosen make reading the book very enjoyable. It would make a wonderful gift for a gin lover or for your own personal collection to have laying out as a great conversation starter when you're entertaining and serving gin cocktails. The gin reviews are extensive and descriptive but my favorite part is the cocktail recipe section and the accompanying photos. You can practically taste each perfectly chilled cocktail as it's presented in its beautiful antique stemmed goblet or cut crystal glass. Yum!

Easily my favorite book on Gin!
This is by far the most enjoyable and comprehensive book on gin I've had the pleasure of reading. It covers everything you could possible think of, including the history of gin, the botanicals used in gin, the various techniques used to distill gin, the tasting of gin, the various styles of gin and other juniper flavored spirits, an enormous number of gin reviews, spotlights on several of the more interesting gin distilleries, and recipes for a number of classic and contemporary gin cocktails. What I love most is that none of these topics are afterthoughts. They are all exceptionally well researched and covered in great detail. I had previously considered myself fairly knowledgeable when it came to gin, but I was amazed at how much new information I came away with. Not only that, but there were several things I "knew" about gin that turned out to be either partially or completely wrong!Whether you are completely new to gin or a seasoned veteran, you will find a lot to love in this book. In short, I cannot recommend it enough!

Must read for gin lovers
This is a great book written by Aaron who also reviews gins on theginisin.com. I've been following his reviews for quite sometime know, and he certainly knows his gins. I've been able to narrow down my top 5 gins thanks to him, one of which is a gin he gave his first 5 star review to. This book has a plethora of information about the gin process and the history of gin. Then reviews of all the gins that are out there. Wonderful. It's a must read for any gin-loving person.

I highly recommend this book
Let me get the nitpicks out of the way: it was shockingly British coming from a Queens-based, Buffalo-born writer*. Probably as a result of this, there were a few moments when I disagreed with the publisher's copy editor as to comma placement. That said! This is both a definitive guide and a gorgeous coffee table book. There are at least a half dozen gins, plus two or three tonics, that I'm tempted to run out and buy right now. It's not noon yet, and this book has me craving a martini! If you want to learn about gin, being dabbling, or expand your palate, I highly recommend this book.*Full disclosure: I'm friends with the author, and have admired his expertise in gin since long before this book was in the works.
