The Whale Box Cometh
This thing has changed the way I work around the house. That may sound extreme, but as an aspiring handyman and journeyman weightlifter with a home gym and a serious fondness for music, it's true. This radio is Bosch quality and style all the way around, meaning it's extremely solid and very user-friendly.So, the build quality: excellent, as far as I can tell. I've put this thing through its paces for several months now, and haven't had even the slightest hiccup out of it. This thing is heavy. I mean it. It's a chunk. We call it the Whale Box. It's a beast. You'll be glad for the carrying handle on the top. The actual box itself doesn't ever touch the ground. The rails running around it keep the box suspended between them no matter what side you lay it on. The subwoofer is on the bottom, so when set upright, it'll fire down into whatever surface you've set it on, giving it good sound and surprising presence for its size. I play bass guitar, and I'm impressed by the bottom-end power this thing can produce, especially for its size. Just set the EQ to 'Rock' and wait for your neighbors to complain or compliment. Depends on the neighbor, I suppose. I suggest having a drink ready for them either way.On to the functions, then. You can sync your phone to it over Bluetooth (flawless syncing, by the way), use it as an AM/FM radio (fold-down antenna included), plug in a USB flash drive full of music, or use the included male-to-male aux cable to attach pretty much any music player you want. There is even a sealable bay on the side to store and protect your music player or flash drive. If you're going to use a flash drive, it needs to be a very short one, as the bay door closes down and leaves no room for a longer one. I guess you could use a longer drive and just leave the door open, but flash drives are so cheap now I don't a reason to not buy one just for this box. This box is the command center for your Bosch tools. It has a backlit clock with a AA battery backup. There's a charging bay in the back that accepts Bosch 18v batteries. Plug the box into the wall and charge a battery while you use the others and enjoy some music. Like the aux bay, it has a door and will close over the smaller batteries. The other side has a pair of spring-loaded flaps that cover a pair of three-prong outlets each. They're all 120v AC, and the box tells you that the outlets will put out a combined max of 10 amps. And, if you download the Bosch app, you can even use this little dude as a PA. Imagine the possibilities.Seriously. Get yourself a Bosch drill and driver set, a circular saw (preferably the worm gear version, if you can afford it), and a reciprocating saw and there won't be much you can't handle in short order.None of this is to say that Bosch is the ultimate tool company. It definitely has its problems and its competitors. Milwaukee, Makita, and DeWalt all make outstanding products. Hilti is almost objectively better, but you'll certainly pay for it. Festool is the same way. But, to me, Bosch has the best and most accessible overall combination. At least for now.Power, great ergonomics, flexibility, and value. I can't ask for much more.

Great piece of equipment with many benefits.
After many months of being subjected to the Bosch torture test video (I worked at Lowe's at the time) I finally got the radio and it exceeded my expectations. Build quality is a important factor whenever I buy tools, vehicles, firearms etc....This work site radio has a big beefy power cord, a strong frame and a over sized handle that can be carried even when wearing thick gloves. Its heavy and well protected. Having dials to adjust volume and frequency is great as opposed to small buttons. The buttons for other functions are larger in size which is again great for using with gloves on. I'm not a sound quality snob but the speakers are very clear and it really projects the sound. Using the radio as a power source is a great benefit as you can use multiple corded tools at the same time (as long as its plugged in) as I did when we built our chicken house for the Flockers. I used the circular saw, jig saw, reciprocating saw, and charged my phone or Amazon Echo to play music and embarrass my kids while dancing to 80's music. I'll sometimes secure it to the ATV and listen to talk radio or music as I'm working around the yard hauling heavy items or the lawn roller. Its great for down time such as at the fire pit while making Smores and spending time with the kids. Using the Amazon Echo or any similar device allows the kids to call out what songs to play it becomes a fun time.In the never stop improving area, I would like to see a thicker, more effective flexible antenna as well as a deeper storage area for USB, audio cable or other cords.I doubt most people will regret spending the amount of money when they see all the benefits of this great piece of equipment. If you are a Bosch aficionado and you already have drivers and tools that use the same battery as this radio its a match made in heaven.

Whoa!
Oooooo mama, I LOVE THIS PUPPY!!!Where do i start???the speakers are plenty powerful and the sound quality is great. There are equalizer options to fine tune the sound quality, and you even have the ability to set custom bass/treble levels into memory. Overall, the sound quality is not "quite" Bose quality, but it is very good. The multi directional speakers radiate sound in all directions which is perfect for a jobsite radio. The subwoofer has decent bass, which is hard to do outside in a small unit like this. If you aren't happy with the sound, i gotta believe you have unrealistic expectations, Jack! The thoughtfulness of the design is incredible-- the protective cage is very well built and will protect the radio from items crashing into it. Heck, even the LCD screen has small metal bumpers just in case a rogue tool finds its way thru the cage! Some designer figured out a way around the accountants, because nothing about this is made cheaply. Penny pinching Accountants ruin most designs, but not this one. There are 4 power ports so after you run an extension cord to the radio, you can plug stuff into the radio for power. The bluetooth works awesome with my iPhone. It has a media compartment where you can charge a phone via USB and keep it protected from dust, etc. (full disclosure: media compartment wont hold an iphone 6plus). The radio will run for hours on one charge from a bosch battery, and also charge said battery after it sucked it dry in a charging compartment! Genius! The radio reception is very good, which was important to me because i like to listen to baseball games while working outside. The radio also has memory presets, although the tuner quickly spins to the station you need to get to.This was a great purchase... I highly recommend it.
