Seiko SQ50-V Quartz Metronome Tuner

Super easy to use and quite loud - perfect.

I tried the Seiko SQ60 because it's the newer model and seemed a bit upgraded. The red-light pendulum was too much like a strobe light flashing and my eyes could't take it. It may be great for others but not for me. So I ordered this one, the SQ50-V and love it. A single red light flashes on the beat--much better! All that I want with a metronome is a steady beat. Others can have all the bells and whistles. The SQ50-V does what's needed and does it well.

Our piano teacher asked us to buy this and it worked perfectly.

This metronome model is a classic. I like the fact that it's simple and doesn't try to do a million things. I don't need a metronome to subdivide beats for me or make a different tone at the beginning of a bar, have tap tempo, etc. It's simple and to the point. You spend less time faffing about with settings and more time actually practicing. This metronome makes an actual CLICK sound which is often easier for me to hear than the beep of some other metronomes. There's a light that blinks in time with the click so even if you can't specifically hear it (or prefer to keep it silent), there's a visual cue to anchor yourself to. The plastic this is built from feels much more substantial than most plastic devices made today which feel like they'd shatter into a million pieces if you dropped it. I won't say this is bomb-proof, but it should last you awhile. The wire stand that swings out from the back also feels more sturdy than most devices that offer the same feature. Overall, it's nice to see an old classic design that seems to more or less be made with the same old classic quality. This thing can get pretty loud. At the highest level, it was a little uncomfortable to sit next to. Fortunately the volume control can get this down to a level that won't annoy your neighbors, and if you want to practice late at night, there's a headphone jack for silent practice. The dial makes setting tempos pretty easy since you can just twist it to wherever you need quickly as opposed to dealing with the up/down buttons of digital metronomes that rely on an LED screen, however you are not able to set any tempo you want. The slowest speed is 40 and each tempo marking above that increases by 2 (42, 44, 46, etc) until you get to 60 where the numbers increase by 3. At 72 they increase by 4. At 120 they start to increase by 6 and then at 144 they increase by 8 until you top out at 208. The range is reasonable enough for practicing most repertoire and as stated, makes tempo adjustment incredibly quick, however if you absolutely need super granular control over the exact BPM and want to get clicks at precisely 94bpm, you'll be SOL since your choices are either 92 or 96. That's not really enough of a difference to be noticeable to most people, but is worth pointing out in case your metronome requirements are more esoteric than most. I do wish there was some sort of clip on the back of this to clip onto music stands. While there should be some sort of configuration to get this to sit nicely on most stands, a clip would make it just a touch more flexible. That said, there's plenty of blank real estate on the back, so if you wanted to DIY something with a clip and some super glue, that could probably be managed pretty easily.

Quieter than I thought, but it's fine. It's a great, high quality, sturdy little metronome. A bit quiet for a violin in my opinion, but still ample enough to be heard. It's plastic with a metal stand, and its very cute.

for an inexpensive metronome, this little seiko is ideal. i didn't know quite what to expect when i ordered this, but i love it! the other positive reviews about this are absolutely correct. this metronome uses a 9 volt battery (i don't know how long the battery will last, because i've only owned this for a couple weeks, but it seems ok), a really convenient front dial to adjust the beat timing (just turn it, it turns smoothly), and two tones to choose from. the tones are sort of alike, and changed by a little switch on the side; the first is a clock-like tick, the second is a wood-like sound, which i prefer, but neither tone is at all bothersome. nobody is going to start yelling at you to turn the thing off (unless you're married). the metronome has both a volume control on one side, and a light that illuminates the beat at the top...you can turn the volume down and just use the light, or turn up the volume..it gets pretty loud....i use it turned way down and it's plenty loud enough. the beats are numbered, so you can find the setting you want easily. the numbers are kinda' small, but you don't need to squint. this is a perfectly designed, easy to use little metronome, and, no, i don't own any stock in the company. in fact this is the second product review i've ever written on amazon (the other was a dvd movie review). already my guitar playing is better...i am going to buy another one of these after christmas, it's just so useful. a great little product!

PROS + Has a volume control + Quartz metronomes with dials are the fastest/easiest to use + Has two sounds to choose from (in theory) + Small form factor + At around $25, affordable CONS - Mine arrived with only 1 sound for both switch positions (defective) - Timing was inconsistent vs. two other metronomes (possibly defective) - I found the white numbering on red background harder to read than other units with black on white - The dial pointer is very hard to see compared to competing similar products NEUTRAL - No beat accents. I don't really use those very often so not a big deal to me, but you should be aware. SUMMARY This would be a decent metronome for the price IF you receive one that works right. I didn't. The print on the dial favors young eyes, and they chose a "pointer" that isn't very obvious, or I'd have probably reordered a replacement and tried again. I rated 3 stars based on features not working and the usability issues of the dial design. On the plus side it's the cheapest quartz/dial metronome with a volume control, and at least for me, a volume control is a highly favorable feature. You could do worse at this price point. But I prefer the Matrix MR-600 (w/ volume control) or the Wittner 50 (no vol control but readable).

Made one mistake a few years back and purchased a metronome that's not bad except that it requres multiple turns of dial to switch between speeds. Doing that for just a difference of 30 bpm for a couple of times and it gets horrendously time consuming and tiresome. Seiko's big wheel simply solves it. Other goodies: very small and loud, can lay flat without obstructing the sound. Bad - the dial indicator is difficult to see. Can DIY fix it though.

Simply great. Does exactly what you need. No complicated features no one uses. And the best part, it is the quickest metronome to change the beat setting. Nothing can beat the dial design. Fortget the apps where you have to find it, open it, wait while it loads and then set the setting, or those expensive button operated ones when you have to press the button hundred times to set the desired beat. Takes second to change the beat when you are moving from one piece to another. Less time fidgeting with metronome, more time for practice. I used to hate practicing with metronome, with that one I love it because it's not a chore anymore to set it to the desired beat.

Dieses Metronom wurde für ein Kind angeschafft es sollte einfach in der Bedienung sein und ich kann nur sagen das ist es wirklich. Batterie war schon dabei, so konnte es auch losgehen und mein Kind hat sofort raus wie man es einstellt man braucht nur das Rad zu drehen, wie bei einer Eieruhr. Es gibt noch die Auswahl eines hohen und tiefen Tones, was Klasse ist ,da wie wir von anderen hörten manche Töne echt nicht angenehm sind. Beim Unterricht wurden wir gleich von einer Erwachsenen gefragt wo es das denn gäbe, da ihr Metronom einen schrecklichen Ton hat. Ach ja, die Lautstärke läßt sich auch einfach regeln. Einfach ,praktisch , gut.

Práctico para cambiar rápidamente entre velocidades de metrónomo estándar (las que tendría uno mecánico). Si por ejemplo en la misma sesión practicas escalas a 92bpm y luego practicas un adagio a 69bpm, es más práctico cambiar rápidamente que en un metrónomo digital de botones sin dial. Tiene dos tonos para los golpes. También indica los aires: Largo, larghetto, adagio, etc. que siempre es una buena referencia. Lo mejor de todo es que tiene volumen variable. Único punto en contra: Si bien se ve y se siente resistente, el plástico negro es brilloso y luce un poco barato. Un poco como un juguete. Criterios estéticos aparte, es una excelente y muy práctica herramienta.

Not accurate. It's not consistent. Also I was encouraged by the fact it's sound was supposed to be natural but it's not. It's not crisp clear. Not recommended

Must use more
