Basic storage a reliable device. Storage with encryption not reliable
I have used a number of these and similar drives for basic back up (without encryption) for several years without problems. This review relates solely to their use with the encryption facility, which I have found to be unreliable in 3 cases. For example, a failure to recognise the device, a failure to recognise the correct password, and a notice that the number of password attempts had been exceeded when only half the password had been entered for the first time. In all cases the stored data was lost with devices 6 to 18 months old. I do not know whether there is some incompatibility with Windows 10 causing problems, but certainly the Freecom icon and some software programme material is lost with updates to Windows . Once the drive has failed earlier versions of Windows do not remedy access.

Bought a second one because I liked the first one so much! Obviously I don’t deliberately drop it but knowing it is ultra protected makes me feel more reassured carrying it round everyday

It works equally happily with a Mac and a Windows 7 PC
I have two 320GB ToughDrives which have performed reliably over several years. This 2TB ToughDrive was bought as an archive drive to store picture files. It appears to work just as well as the other two drives,. It works equally happily with a Mac and a Windows 7 PC. Recommended - a good product.
