Great Value in a Great Quality Machete
This is a very good value machete. It comes with a nice, sturdy sheath, and is very sharp right out of the package. I used it lightly the day it arrived, and of course, I hit a buried rock right away. I expected to raise it to see a chunk taken out of the edge, but it only left a very small nick that I was easily able to grind back to sharp. Recently, I used the machete again for a rigorous 2 1/2 hour session of heavy brush clearing, and it performed extremely well. Dispatching saplings and shrubs/trees up to about 2" diameter was effortless. On larger trees up to about 5" diameter, I was easily able to chop them down in just a few strokes. This thing takes out chunks like an ax. At the end of my heavy clearing session, there was some noticeable dulling of the edge, but I was able to get it sharpened back up with a stone in pretty short order. I definitely recommend this tool, and would not hesitate to buy it again.

So far, love it.
I've used machetes for years to manage wooded property. But carrying a full sized machete can be cumbersome at times. I had bought the Chance in Hell awhile back, and was impressed with the compact machete. This one had the same great handle. Soft and easy to grab, but not low quality rubber like other cheap ones I've ran across. If you are torn between these two models, I will say this: the Chance in Hell is a little smaller/lighter, with a straight back of the blade and point at the end. This Half a Chance has more weight at the end, which makes for a great swing. If I had to choose one, I would personally grab this one. But if you want the most compact, grab the other.

Overall good tool.
Feels awkward in the hand, but only because this is the first parang I've owned. I'm sure I'll get used to it. The blade came razor sharp on mine, able to cut paper. The only complaint I have is that the strap on the sheath that holds the handle in is too short. It will not reach to snap. Other than that, and the fact that the price dropped almost $8 between the time I ordered it, and the time it arrived (two days), I'm happy with it. IMO Amazon should keep track of things like that, and give it to you at the new price if it is within a couple days of ordering. It makes me fell like I got ripped off.UPDATE: After much pulling and straining, I finally got the snap in place. It would be difficult to do if it were on my belt though. Hopefully the strap will stretch just a bit.

Best machete I have ever used
Best machete I have ever used. Durable and chops like a small axe. It won't hurt your hand like the old military style machetes. Completely blows my Ontario and Sog machetes away. I've ordered a second one in case it is discontinues. May even order a third.

What a value
I purchased the Halfachance machete a while back and am happy to report that I finally got an opportunity to test it out. What can I say other than it absolutely blew me away... First, out of the box it was sharp, not just sharp, but it had an edge that rivaled that of many knives that have cost 4x as much. That kind of sharpness on a blade as thick as this is mind boggling in the best of ways. Second, it is thick. This blade is much thicker and more robust than a traditional machete, but that isn't a bad thing. This product is beyond confidence inspiring. The robustness is felt as soon as it is in your hand, it feels durable, strong, like a true workhorse. Come to think of it "workhorse" is the perfect word for it, the CRKT Halfachance is a workhorse, it feels, and after testing it has proven that it can handle every task thrown at it and then some. Lastly, it is gorgeous, everything about this product is deliberate, it is a tool through and through, but don't let that fool you. Ken Onion has produced yet again another spectacular design that juxtaposes form and function in a wonderful way.In summation I am absolutely blown away by this product and would highly recommend it to anyone who considers themselves an outdoor enthusiast. From bushcraft to yard work this product can do it all.

Excellent
Whether for camping or around the yard, this is a great mid weight machete. The grip is very comfortable, much nicer than the hard plastic two-piece grip that usually comes with machetes. This one won’t give you blisters. The weight is well balanced for maximum cutting power a couple inches down from the tip. This is a mid weight machete, so it will still flex if you grab it sideways and try to bend it. It does what it is designed to do- chop and cut bushes and thin trees or tree branches. The sheath is nice, with snaps to secure the blade inside. If this ever breaks I’d buy it again.

Awesome Handling. Soooo glad I did not purchase just another machete...
A lot of parang for the buck. Fits your hand well. Good balance. Correct heat treat for a blade like this. Short of getting the real deal from Malaysia (for about 3X the $$), this is a well made blade from a reputable manufacturer. Another great Ken Onion design. If you have to go out and whack vegetation in your local jungle, this parang is highly recommended.

Sheath not great
Somewhat disappointed with this one. I've bought a lot of crkt knives and this didn't really meet my expectations. The knife itself is good it came very sharp and seems solid. It's the sheath, the button strap to hold the knife in does not fit around the knife. Also the package looked like it went through hell before they put it in the shipping box. All in all its good. With the shape of the knife you have to unsnap the two other snaps to take it out or put it in so the knife won't come out even though the one doesn't fit. But that in itself is kinda a pain. Good knife though I'll keep it. It will probably actually get used instead of going into my collection.UPDATE!!!!after some trying the strap to hold the knife in the sheath does fit it's just pretty tight and takes some effort to get it snapped. Originally I rated this 3 stars but I'm changing it to 4 stars.
