Such an important breakthrough in storage technology!
Although only time will tell, these M-Discs are probably THE best long term consumer archival medium that is available. (Compared to hard disk, flash memory, tape, etc.) Nothing will last as long. The one exception may be cloud storage, but you always run the risk of putting your data in a third parties hands to care for. Some people online say that these are "the same" or very similar to the non-Mdisc Verbatim BD-R media. I do not believe this to be true just using some basic observations. For one thing, the non-Mdisc Verbatim BD-R media says on the package that it uses a "metal nitride" recording layer on the package, whereas the Verbatim M-Disc media clearly says "engraved in stone" on the package. (Though, if you get into geology, "stone" is a material that can contain metal and has an entirely different meaning than "rock"... rock being a solid that is composed of minerals... though, to most laypeople, all these terms are the synonymous with each other) So, it is possible they are playing on words. However, a visual examination of both the M-Disc and non-Mdisc (just looking at both of them with my eyes) reveals that they are unmistakably a different color. Really, I should say a different shade. They are both a darkish brown/grayish color, but the shade is drastically different between the two, with one noticeably darker and perhaps a very small color gradient removed from the other. This is true both on recorded and non-recorded discs. This color/shade difference strongly suggests that there is at least some variation in the recording material that is being used.Regular BD-R media, unlike DVD-R and CD-R media, does not use dye (unless it is LTH type BD-R), but rather an inorganic material. Therefore, M-Disc and regular BD-R are similar in that both are non-organic, and thus less different than say a DVD-R and BD-R type. Inorganic material is less susceptible to certain decay forces compared to organic material. So, regular BD-R media also (should) generally have good shelf life. The question is how much more life than the M-Disc material. The answer to that isn't fully known, but at the end of the day, the M-Disc IS using a recording layer that is composed differently than the regular BD-R.

Excellent
Verbatim discs have served me well in the past. These M-Discs come with good standard jewel cases, the thick type. I took two discs out to burn on today, they felt sturdy and each disc was flawless on the write side (no dust or marks whatsoever) which is excellent and just what you hope for. The other side of the discs have a white label area for writing on with a disc-safe marker pen.I feel pretty good about using these M-Discs to backup family photos and videos I converted from VHS. Being 25GB a piece, I only needed a couple.

Easy to Burn
Easy to burn disc using a standard Blu-Ray burner. Hope it will last a very long time in dark, dry conditions for archiving purposes.01/13/2022 Update:4 out of 5 discs worked. The 5th one stated that the disc was unable to be burned. Three of the cases were broken when delivered. A recent order sent one disc rather than five as sold. Sketchy product but works well when it works.

Lots of Data Storage...
I like these discs...25 GB is actually a large space for file storage. Fortunately the recording session can be set to "USB" to keep the unused space available for future use.

Hail from 3020
Hail fellow specimens,Im on my way to 1965 to a Beatles concert. Just stopping by to tell you guys that these discs work as advertised. A case of these were found under the rubble of an ancient settlement under the sea in the Manhattan shallows. They were filled with 100 gb of music from the greatest artist of your century, Justin Beiber. The files are intact.Recommend+ADIOS
