Essential for every climber / short hiker
These shoes are PERFECT.I live in Boulder, CO, and I'm pretty sure these shoes just made it to "permanent CO uniform".These shoes, because of their casual look, strong construction, and sticky rubber insoles, are great for literally everything I do on a daily basis. I bike around town, walk around town, go on short hikes, climbing approaches, and in between pitches or routes at the local crag. I love that the heel can be folded down, particularly when I'm at the crag, because it reduces switch time between climbing shoes and approach shoes and lets your feet breathe a bit. Also, they are great to wear without socks, and your feet or the shoes don't get too smelly. This is also super convenient when switching back and forth from cruzers to climbing shoes.I ordered a half size up, which was perfect for me, but my wife found that her size fit perfectly (of the women's version), so I hope that's helpful.Lastly, it should be said that these shoes are for SHORT approaches or hikes. For anything longer than a few miles or on extremely technical terrain, you'll probably want something with a bit more support. I do just about any hike in the immediate Boulder area with these though, and it's fine. If I go up to Rocky Mountain NP or Indian Peaks Wilderness though, I bring boots for the extra support, particularly in the heel. Again, these are for short approaches to the local crag or brief hikes (along with all of the other city-slicker activities you may find yourself doing).Let me know if this review was helpful, or if you have any questions, and I'll try to respond to any that you might have!

Very good, espadrille-like approach shoe
Nice, light, very low profile approach shoe. I was basically looking for a shoe with the flexibility of a martial arts shoe, with espadrille-like uppers, but with a more substantial, athletic sole.Pros:-- Comfortable, well constructed.-- Good with socks, even better without. The lining is very comfortable without socks, and might be my favorite thing about the shoe.-- Good quality materials. The canvas is sturdy and I expect the shoes to hold up for a few years.-- The back loops are a nice detail.-- The heel backs fold down so the shoe can be worn as a slipper, if desired.-- Very light, very packable.-- I like the clever double tongue design.-- The rubber toe bumper is a big plus, although I wish the heel had a bumper, as well.Cons:-- The heel is too narrow. I wish there was more area under the heel for lateral movement and heel strikes. The shoe feels awkward in the back unless my heel is centered. In my opinion, this is the shoe's biggest weakness.-- As stated by others, these shoes do not breathe well. Expect your feet to perspire in these shoes after even a mild outing.-- Don't get these wet and expect them to perform the same as in the dry. The feel is very different when wet. When wet, they feel saggy, like damp cardboard.-- Disappointed that Evolv is apparently not making this shoe anymore. If anything, they should stay with this style and keep perfecting it. They've clearly got a good thing going here.Neutral:-- They're light climbing shoes, so they are sized for a tight fit. My typical size is 10.5. I ordered these in 11, and I'm very glad I did. 11 allows me some wiggle room without feeling loose. 10.5 would have been too small for my toes. If you like your street shoes fairly snug, you may want to consider a half size up for these.-- I expected the soles to be stickier, almost like a crepe sole. The soles feel a little plasticky, although I haven't truly worn them in yet.-- I wish the laces were a little longer for times when I wear socks or when I don't want to cinch the shoes up tight.-- They are meant for short hikes and some light climbing. Anything more strenuous is really beyond this shoe.Updated comments (~10 weeks use), 2017-06-02:-- The soles still look and feel plasticky, although on a hard surface like concrete, asphalt, or rock, they stick like glue! Amazing hard surface grip.-- The first eyelets near the toes are pretty useless for cinching up the shoes, so I relaced the shoes to give me a little more length for double-knotting.-- The heel coverage is still the shoe's greatest weakness. I know it's a climbing shoe and therefore it's biased toward the toes, but I'm not always on my toes or the balls of my feet. The heels don't necessarily need to be wider or thicker, just more supportive.-- I wear my pair with/without socks about 50/50. Without socks is the most natural way to wear them.-- I wear them laced 100%. I have not tried them with the heels folded down, and I'm not tempted to try them like that.

Love those shoes In fact
I bought my first pair of these shoes 4 years ago and still have them! holes and tears and all and theyre still going strong. Love those shoesIn fact, these are the best bike commuting shoes available! They really should market them as that. I have been commuting a very long time and these are the way to go.The new Cruze'rs are different only slightly but enough for me to notice. The big difference is that the sizing has changed DRASTICALLY. Before I had to get a 11.5 and they fit great. Now a 10.5 is too tight (and the laces are too short??? Come on Evolv! haha) but an 11 is TOO long. So weird Evolv. I went with the 11's but am hoping that next years version has the fit problems fixed!

I cannot recommend them enough
These shoes have literally changed my life. I have extremely long, narrow feet and because of that I had resigned myself to a life of never being able to wear shoes without socks, and never finding slip-on shoes that actually stayed on my feet. I have barely taken these shoes off since getting them, and I have already done a short hike in them -- sockless! I cannot recommend them enough. I was super skeptical with them being "unisex", because as a woman with seriously narrow feet, I can barely get women's shoes that are narrow enough, but the laces make them so adjustable that it works out perfectly. My SO (male) actually has the exact same shoes, and they fit his wide feet perfectly too! I think they must be magical.Summary: I didn't know shoes could be this functional and amazing all at once. Never taking them off.

Highly Recommended Great Shoes! Fit Perfectly. Look Good With Almost Anything. Comfortable, nice and snug.
I love these shoes! Very comfortable and go well with almost anything. The collapsible back is a great feature, slip ons are just nice sometimes. The big black front protection is great to protect toes and the shoes themselves, but it can be a little unsightly. They fit exactly as they should at 11.5 US. They have a nice snug fit to them which I prefer in shoes like these. They are better for your feet than tennis/basketball shows with all their padding and "arch support" Close to barefoot shows but with some extra protection and support.I would highly recommend these to anyone as approach shoes, or just as some nice comfy go anywhere shoes that look good with most attire.
