Best sharpener ever, highly recommended for ceramic or steel.
This is the best knife sharpener I've ever used. Super sharp edge on both steel and ceramic! With some practice, knives are close to razor sharp. Will shave hair off my arm. For best results: - Get the horizontal and vertical angles right so the wheel runs smoothly. The wheels shouldn't chatter. - Use only enough pressure to keep the blade in contact with the wheel...the weight alone is sufficient in many cases. If the motor bogs down, ease off. - Pull the knife at a steady speed...the 3-6 seconds recommended in the manual is a good guideline...multiple smooth passes are better than a slow, inconsistent one...a steel blade can burn if ground too slowly - Use the same pressure and speed on both sides (critical for getting the best edge) Note: It can take practice and patience to learn how to follow the curve to the blade tip without binding the wheel. Three possible issues: 1) The slots are just barely wide enough for Farberware ceramic blades. I don't know whether other brands have thicker blades. 2) 600 grit (the coarser of the 2 pairs of wheels) isn't all that coarse. It can take awhile to remove knicks or sharpen a really dull blade. But, the sharpener is electric, so it just takes a little patience, not hard work. The #1 slots are mainly for removing nicks, anyway. The 800 grit slots (#2) take care of the day-to-day sharpening. 3) For Santoku knives that are sharpened to 15 degrees, use a different sharpener. The Shenzhen fine section is set to 20. I keep a manual โAsianโ sharpener around for maintaining a stainless steel Santoku. (The Farberware ceramic Santoku appears to be ground at 20 degrees, so it honed up nicely in the Shenzhen.) Buy one, you'll love it!

Works Great
We have 9 Kyocera Knives, after a few years I noticed they were becoming dull. These knives come with a lifetime sharpening service, a handling fee is $5 per knife but you pay to ship it to them and there is the wait time factor. Also, the blades when sent in MUST have protective sleeves to protect the blades during shipment. After weighing all alternatives I purchased this sharpening system. Pros: stones are removable via a simple twist and the whole barrel comes out. Also, the barrel can be replaced with a new one when worn out. Design easily fits on the counter, we hate clutter. After sharpening 3 knives they were like the day we first purchased them. One of the blades I use the most (the Santoku knife) had a noticeable nick on it. My bad, I slid vegetables to a bowl using the blade and not the backside of the knife. After sharpening the Santoku knife, the nick was removed and the blade was once again sharp. The unit is quiet and has a solid feel to it while sharpening. The slots have a good fit to the blades, preventing them from drifting around and permits sharpening right up to the handle. All in all, very satisfied with this purchase. Hint: light pressure while sharpening the blades is recommended, I was a little heavy handed on the first attempt but soon got the "feel" for the right amount of pressure. I would recommend this product to a friend. Cons: None.

It sharpened my ceramic and stainless knives
First, Iโm a woodworker. That requires extremely sharp tools like hand planes and chisels. I have plenty of gear from bench grinders to diamond stones and polishing compound plus more and have pretty good technique using it. However, Iโve never achieved decent results on stainless or ceramic knives. I had good results on the first stainless knife I tried on this sharpener. When I tried many passes of the first ceramic knife through this device, it didnโt make a difference. Grumble, grumble. But I kept trying because the seller told complainers their knives were dull and needed more work. So, I continued to grind away. After something like 15 passes per side, the knife started to feel sharp. A few more passes on both the course and fine stones and the job was done. Based on the results, this device ended up doing a good job. I didnโt give it five stars because I had to use a different technique on each side of the stones. One side needed light pressure. The other side needed firm pressure or the knife didnโt engage the stone then the knife would pop out. Maybe it was me. Regardless, after a little experimentation, I was able to get the job done. I still have a number of knives to sharpen. If my opinion changes one way or the other, Iโll add to my review.

Takes out the chips, and then some
I tried this along with the Kyocera Advanced and my old Chef's Choice 300, and this wins FOR CERAMIC KNIVES. It took the chips out of an old Kyocera knife, and restored a pretty good cutting edge. I won't say it's factory sharp, but it's better than how chipped and dull it was getting. Being that it plugs in, it really helps maintain wheel speed when grinding a little more material off and doesn't struggle to pull through, as the Kyocera did (battery power only). I tried sharpening my 3 Kyocera knives on my old Chef's Choice 300 (diamond orbit, 2 grades), but it couldn't seem to go down deep enough to remove the chips (it's not designed for ceramic knives, first and foremost), while this unit took it out with 3-4 passes on Coarse. I will still be keeping the CC-300 for all the knives that won't fit in the slots of this sharpener (the slots are a little narrow), but everything else will see this sharpener first. As for steel, I ran my Wustoff steel chef's knife through, no problem, and a no-name chinese chef's knife (not a cleaver, but something smaller and thinner, like a tall Santoku), and both were sharpened well. I ran the second on the coarse side first to remove some cutting edge rust (stainless can still develop rust spots), and then on the fine side to complete the sharpeneing. Finally, a few passes on the sharpening steel/hone (for both knives, actually), and it really put the edge back on. Highly recommend as a good ceramic knife sharpener.

Works well
We had always had Kyocera sharpen our ceramic knives using their mail-in service, but theyโve closed that due to the pandemic. So I ordered this sharpener, which was cheap enough. Our two larger knives needed sharpening, one of which had two small chips in the blade. The coarse side (slots numbered 1) ground out the chips in just a few draws of the blade, alternating the left and right sides. Three pairs of draws through the fine side (slots numbered 2) finished things off. For the other knife, I gave it two pairs of draws through the coarse side and then three through the fine side. My wife was happy with the results and judged that the knives were 80% of new condition, probably as good as you can get with this kind of sharpener and totally to her satisfaction. This is a low-current device with a small motor. But it doesnโt at all bog down in use and seems plenty peppy. Five stars for a practical, effective, and easy-to-use way to sharpen those ceramic knives.

So glad to be able to pull out my ceramic knives and use them again--nice and sharp!
Years ago I bought a few ceramic knives and loved them, but frankly, they dulled quickly. I just put them in the back of the drawer and forgot about them. Recently I saw the ad listing for this sharpener made FOR ceramic only. It made them like brand new, and they're all I use again. So very glad to have something to keep my ceramic knives sharp and usable.

Works great for narrow knives
I didn't realize sharpening my knives myself could be this easy -- put it off for years and finally gave in and bought this. It worked great after an adjustment -- the gaps were slightly asymmetric, such that I could not drag my knife through the left coarse slot easily. After removing the plastic protective cover and sanding it down a bit, it is much easier. It'd be nice if there was better quality control on this, or maybe my knives are just unusually wide?

Didn't work quite like I expected
I was a little surprised that this sharpener was able to remove enough material from my ceramic knives, to remove small chips quickly. That was great. However, the fine stage was apparently not fine enough to put a rediculous sharp edge on my ceramic knives, certainly not as sharp as they were from the factory. Especially my pro series Keocera, which was sharper than a freakng razor when new. It probably made our couple of Farberware ceramics as sharp as factory, but that's only because they were not crazy sharp brand freaking new. BTW, the Pro series of Keocera are the best lasting, sharpest knives I've ever owned ! Never had a steel knife that came close. So, would I buy this again ? Probably, yes. However, I'd also buy a super fine diamond stone, to hand finish my ceramics, to polish that edge and make them surgical sharp.

Now with UK plug
This works well, and will sharpen ceramic knives and even take small notches out of them.. And it now comes with a plug that you can switch to US, European or UK.

At last a sharpener for Ceramic knives that actually works
Received this Shenzen electric sharpener from Amazon US in less that 2 weeks !! Conrains two diamond wheels labelled coarse and fine which are easy to clean.Justensure you don't clean the wheels near any food !! Great sharpener , as it easily sharpened my 2 Kyocera in a few minutes. Not quite factory sharp but good enough to easily slice printer paper. A few minutes later I had sharpened a couple of addittional 2 "no name" ceramic knives, and now there isn't a dull knife in the kitchen. Hopefully I will get many years of service out of this Shenzen electric sharpener. Highly recommend this ceramic knife sharpener

Works well
Works well. 4 stars because one of the discs look misaligned but the device is still functional. I bought this for ceramic knives and it sharpens them with ease.
