Best way to learn Thai
I really like the Pimsleur Thai CDs.I used a short Linguaphone course of 4 CDs prior to discovering the Pimsleur series so I can compare them both in terms of effectiveness and enjoyment. The Linguaphone CDs present more vocabulary per CD and involved more conscious effort to learn the content. Pimsleur does a lot of the heavy lifting by clever language acquisition techniques, is more enjoyable and because it focuses on less vocabulary and forces you to comprehend it and use it in multiple ways, it prepares you for conversation much better.I subsequently bought the Pimsleur Thai comprehensive, which includes a further 20 lessons. For anyone serious about learning the language I would recommend the HighSpeedThai course which i bough on the Internet. I've been using this from the beginning and it seems by far the best most comprehensive course for this language as the Pimsleur only really gives you a good basic knowledge. Pimsleur haven't done a level two or level three course in Thai, like they have done for the more popular languages and don't really tackle the important business of the written language in an adequate way.For anyone serious about learning this language and how to read it I would recommend the HighSpeedThai course with the addition of Pimisleur CDs for the car.I learnt the whole Thai alphabet and was reading individual words with ease after only a few weeks. The learning tool Anki is used throughout this course and it works like magic.I'm on the vocabulary lessons now and it employs a method similar to the Pimisleur method, forcing you to comprehend the words in multiple contexts and use them yourself. I enjoy reading Thai now out loud and understanding it and this is great achievement for given that the Thai written system is so complex, describing the five distinct tones and the long and short vowels.By the end of it I will be watching movie clips that are provided with the course in Thai and speaking the language easily so I'm really looking forward to that.I think it would be almost impossible for most people to learn to read properly and understand Thai without the Anki flash card tool provided in the HighSpeedThai course, I mean it's just not gonna happen. So my recommendation is, get the HighSpeedThai course and do it at home for an hour and a half per day and also get these Pimsleur CDs for the car. คุณจะพูดภาสาไทยได่ดีมากครบ โช่คดีครับ สวัสดีครับ. ;)

pretty good program to understand a bit of Thai
I've used Pimsleur's program for Japanese and other languages and found it to be fairly effective, when combined with the study of grammar and other basics. This time I only used this program to learn Thai. Although I couldn't remember most of the sentences after arriving in Thailand, I still remember some of it 2 years later. I still couldn't understand people's conversations since it's not the complete program, but I could pick out a couple of words here and there.

Give it a Try
Useful! I had fun speaking with Thai people in Chiang Mai and Chonburi. It helps you get a basis, as with any language you will need to speak with Thai people to fully develop your language skills. I recommend giving it a try.

Can't Hear First Word or Sound in many sentences
On my CDs, the first word or sound on many sentences is clipped or missing. So, a sentence like, "Are you there," becomes "You there?"I e-mailed Pimsleur twice, and both time they prmosed to get back in three to five b-days. They never got back at all.

This is how you learn a new language and you ...
This is how you learn a new language and you should never go to a country without at least trying to learn a few phrases

Just Keep At It
Been listening for awhile, picking up a lot. You just have to keep at it and keep going. Only complaint is that the speakers talk WAY TO FAST. Jeez. Cant keep up.

Sounds good
I have a Thai fiancé who has listened to this with me and she says it sounds accurate. I have used Pimsleur in the past and I feel that they are a good alternative to some of the other CD's out there.

Great purchase!
I have found these Cd's really helpful. Male and female versions of each sentence are provided and the words are repeated multiple times. I was kind of worried that I would want to see the words written down to really understand what is being said, but I really have no problem understanding the speakers.
