Powerful speakers in an affordable price range
These speakers are awesome. I’ve only been using them for a few days but the sound is great. I’m not an audiophile so I can’t say much about the lows and highs and so on, however I will comment that the subwoofer is powerful. The bass when turned all the way up will rattle a bit so if small noises bother you, then keep the bass down a bit. I don’t regret this purchase and it looks beautiful with my MSI Trident 3 and MSI 24” curved monitor. Recommend 100% for those not interested in spending an arm and a leg.A couple things to consider:1) Set Up - Set jp was incredibly easy. It’s essentially stupid proof. The only thing you need to remember is to switch what output your computer will try to use otherwise it’ll seem like they don’t work.2) Size - I don’t mind the size of these speakers, however unless you have a huge desk you will most likely end up with the sub on the ground. There just isn’t enough room and it becomes cluttered quickly.3) Volume - These guys are LOUD. They will fill a whole house and the front yard and the neighbors yard when cranked all the way up. Noise complaints abound. The volume button is touchy and can get you in the perfect casual gaming noise level with some slight tweaking.Overall, would recommend!

Excellent sound, but a few inherent issues. Best to go with the Ballista Trinity instead
The sound quality is excellent; however, there seem to be a few problems inherent with this model itself. I'd recommend spending the extra money to go with the Ballista Trinity instead of the Unity. That being said, I feel that AVerMedia has earned the extra stars with their quick response to my complaint. The first unit I ordered (Unity), I noticed the same popping sound that others have complained about. I also noticed that I could very faintly hear a local radio station over the same speaker that had the popping problem. By switching speakers around, I confirmed that the problem was not the speaker itself, nor the wiring, but that one particular channel in the control box. This problem happened regardless of whether the PC was powered on, or even connected to the control box. As long as the control box was powered on, I'd get the local radio station and then a popping static whenever I stood up. Thinking that the particular unit I received was defective, I obtained a replacement unit through Amazon. When I plugged that unit in, I noticed that I had the exact same problem in the exact same channel. This was a completely different unit mind you; different control box, different speakers, and different subwoofer. At this point I contacted AVerMedia directly with the problem. Within just a few days, I'd received a replacement control box (this time a Trinity). It has been connected and running for about a week now with absolutely no problems at all.One other thing to note. With both of the Unity units, I noticed that when I plugged a headset into the control box, the volume would be extremely low (even with the headset's internal volume at max). I'd have to max the volume of the control box just to be able to hear from the headset. Keep in mind, that without the headset, cranking the volume of the control box over 1/4 would be way too loud. The Trinity doesn't have that problem. The volume keeps a steady balance between speakers and headset.Based on this, I have to say that the sound quality of the AVerMedia systems is excellent for the price, but it would definitely be worth paying the extra $30 - $40 for the Trinity instead of the Unity. That being said, their support seems to be very responsive to customer complaints, and they seem to truly care about getting their customers back up and running as quickly as possible. All in all, their response has guaranteed that they will be among the first brands that I recommend to others.

Great sound at a bargain price. Games and Music sound much better than I expected! A great buy.
I decided to downsize the clutter on my desktop. The challenge was on to locate a speaker system that had a small footprint...yet provides very good sound. I happened on AVerMedia's products. With so few reviews, making a decision to buy seemed a bit risky. However, the general consensus of the reviewers was very positive and motivated me to roll the dice on the Ballista Unity.Setup was a snap, and the performance was pretty good right out of the box. However, I had become accustomed to slightly bigger sound, SRS surround, and a little more control of the sub. I attached the Xitel SOUNDaround Surround Sound Processor I purchased in 2014. WOW! Unfortunately, that device is currently only available from Amazon vendors, at a price that I wouldn't pay today. But, with some looking around here, and on Google, you can find simple/inexpensive audio processors that would be a great complement to this system. So far, the build quality and functionality of the AVerMedia Ballista Unity is very much in line with the very attractive price point that Amazon has set. Give it a try and see how sweet your games and audio can sound...without having to sell the cow to own it.User Guide: https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/avermedia/web_release_www/GS310/GS310_user_guide_ww_20150925.pdf

However when I am working (I work from home for my job) and don't have sound going it is highly annoying to hear the static
I purchased one of these and set it up and immediately noticed a lot of loud static/ white noise. This noise happens as soon as the external speakers are connected to the control unit. Do note that this noise still happens with the Inputs Unplugged. The speakers themselves emit this noise just by being powered on.I thought the above was just a defective unit, so went through a replacement. The second unit is making the same noise although not as loud as the first unit. I am now requesting a refund and will research and check for another brand.I will say, that when listening to music/playing sound though the sound is loud and very clear. However when I am working (I work from home for my job) and don't have sound going it is highly annoying to hear the static. I find I have to turn off the speakers to just shut them up, but then I am not warned of IM/Email notifications via sound.Going to just plug up my old trusty Dell's until I find pick another set.
