Top hip-hop DVD
Didn't really know ST before this, bought it mostly for the MF Doom material after getting Madvillainy. Well, after a couple of viewings I was well impressed. There's a nice range of beats'n'rhymes hip-hop by Wildchild, Rasco and the energetic pharcyde-like Charizma, all elevated by superior production coming mostly from ST head honchos Egon, Peanut Butter Wolf, and Madlib, the latter's skill at jazz sampling being particularly impressive. There are touches of leftfield hip-hop from MF Doom and Lord Quas(Madlib alter-ego) that always have the most interesting videos. Fair play to ST for adding some variety with the awesome jazz/soul/funk band Breakestra, the trip-hoppy Koushik and the frankly irritating Gary Wilson. The extras are good, with interviews (Amongst others Doom himself) live videos, making of the videos, and of course a nice 70 minute ST mixtape constructed by the founder PB Wolf. All in all a great package, especially for those who want some more turntablist-orientated media in a market where decent hip-hop DVDs are usually Live shows or dj exhibitions. So - Get it!

great DVD
Most independent labels never even get to their 100th release as they either loose interest or lose money. Stones throw have stayed stong in the past years and have never gave up in what they believe in. This DVD is a nice little package with videos, interviews, commentery, etc. A dope mix CD also accompanies it mixed by Peanut Butter Wolf (The founder of the label). Most of the DVD is hip-hop but the DVD also features artists as diverse as Dudley Perkins, Gary Wilson, etc. Its what i like about Stones Throw, as you get the impression they just like all kinds of music. I reccomend this to MF Doom and Madlib fans especially. Its a pity Rawkus didn't get this far.
