Deluxe USB 3.0 to 3.5-Inch SATA Hard Drive External Enclosure EN3506B (Black)

This enclosure is completely "Meh". Nothing even remotely interesting about it. Aluminum body with plastic endcaps. The soldering on the small PCB inside is acceptable. There is one "gotcha" with this unit, however:The "Features" listed on the back of the box states "Internal Power Supply Eliminates Bulky Adapters". At the same time, the same side of the box states that the contents contain "Power Adapter and Power Cable".Just so you're clear, this unit DOES require the use of a "Bulky Adapter", to the tune of 12V at 2A, so don't be mislead (it does come with the required BULKY adapter that it says it eliminates). The USB 3.0 chip used inside the enclosure is an ASMedia ASM1051, which has the following specs (no extra charge for the Engrish which was copied directly from their site):ASM1051 is the single chip solution to bridge both SuperSpeed USB (USB3.0) and High Speed USB (USB2.0) to Serial ATA. I just bought a new computer, that had USB3.0 I wanted to get something to test the speed. I had a few drives laying around so i figured i would give this guy a try. I am amazed by the speed of USB 3.0. The enclosure was easy to put together, I dont use it for travel so not worried about the power adapter. The quality seems good to me. I am sure i will be using it for years to come.

Purchased this enclosure several months ago. Works fine with Desktop PCs with USB 2.0 port, but could not get my toshiba netbook or old HP laptop to recognize this enclosure. Tried reinstalling the laptop USB drivers, changing how these laptops recognize hard drives, rescanning for new devices and drives, etc. I finally figured out that the problem had to do with the USB cable. If you insert USB connector all the way inside the USB port until it stops, the laptop /netbook will not see the external hard drive. But, if you slowly push the USB connector several millimeters into the port, the portable computer will eventually see the device and assign the drive a letter. Kind of annoying if you ask me. I had older enclosures that did not have this problem. Now I have to be careful not to nudge the cable in fear of loosing the data connection. I recommend looking for a different enclosure.
