Walking in the Cairngorms

Walking the Cairngorms...
The Cairngorms represent some of the very best, and some of the most challenging, hillwalking in Britain. They contain some of Britain's highest peaks, set in a magnificent glacier-carved landscape that stretches for miles across the Scottish Highlands. They permit both day hikes and days-long traverses. This Cicerone book is a useful guide to their enjoyment. This portable guide contains an introduction and some meaningful safety warnings, followed by nearly 300 pages of routes across the area. The guide includes the Cairngorms proper and the hill masses to the southeast around Lochnagar. The chapters on routes provide directions and a sketch map, along with a selection of color photographs that give a flavor of the terrain. The use of additional Ordnance Survey and/or Harvey Superwalker maps is strongly recommended, as is this guide.

Book and maps too small to be useful
The book was too small to be of much use and the maps were pathetic. The one walk we went on (number 12) randomly missed out a whole chunk of information in the middle of the walk and we had to rely on other hikers for directions.
