Classic design and very comfortable. But needs antireflective crystal.
There is something that immediately feels right about a classic design that has been produced for 50 years; one can sense that the bugs were worked out a long time ago. This watch is nearly perfect; lightweight, slim, easy to read, and so comfortable that I often wear it to sleep. The size is just right for me and not - like so many "macho man" watches - the size of a medium pizza. I like the simplicity and readability of the dial. Functionality, not bling. A straight wristwatch. It does not predict the tides or display stock quotes. It's mechanical and it just tells time, or if I really insist, the day of the month. One has the nice feeling of being back in the 1950's. Eisenhower is president and America is just fine. Also quite accurate in timekeeping. And best of all, if I am caught in a boring meeting, I can flip it over and watch the balance wheel dance around. I never get tired of that. However, not 100% perfect in the visibility department. Compared to an Omega Speedmaster I also own (which admittedly cost several times as much), the black dial is not as deep black, and the crystal does not have antireflection coatings (in spite of the Amazon product description which claims it does). Where the Omega is highly readable under all conditions, the Hamilton has distracting glare if I try to read it from an angle.A friendly watch and the one I like to wear every day.

My first Hamilton watch
This is my first Hamilton watch and I am very satisfied with it. I spent a little more money than I typically would on a watch but this watch had the best low key design yet high quality styling that I wasnt able to find with any other watch brand. I decided to splurge a little since it will be put to regular use and it should last a lifetime. During my research I found there were a few versions of the Hamilton Khaki Field watch. There was a version of this watch that cost less but looked almost identical and I couldnt figure out why there was a cost difference. I think this version is a newer version and now that I own it I can see subtle differences compared to the other versions (i.e. H70455733 or H70555533). The first thing is the stitching on the wristband. You'll see that the contrasting stitching is different at the point where the leather band connects to the face of the watch. The other thing is that the seconds hand has a red tip in the other version vs a luminous tip for this newer version. Also, the clasp is in the shape of an "H" in the newer version vs the traditional one prong clasp. I guess its up to the purchaser to decide if these differences are worth the difference in price which can be $50-$75.This was also my first automatic watch and I liked the idea of how the watch will generate power via the movement of the wrist. My only concern was what happens if I don't wear the watch for a day or two. The instructions say that the watch has a running reserve of up to 42 hours. I havent experienced this because I wore the watch for an entire wknd and decided to switch watches when I went to work on Monday. When I returned home later that night I found that the Hamilton watch had run out of power. Apparently, the reserve power was used up! This was a downer because it was barely 24 hours and I feel that after wearing it for a full wknd non stop that it would have packed up the 42 hours reserve power as claimed by the instructions. This was almost a deal breaker for me and I was getting ready to return the watch when I found out that the watch allows you to also manually wind it. Turning the dial clockwise several times will keep the watch powered. So if you don't plan on wearing the watch for a couple of days then turn the dial on the watch (only takes a few seconds) either first thing the morning or last thing at night and the watch will keep on ticking. This is not an issue if this is your one and only watch that you'll wear daily. All in all, this is a great watch. Its something you can wear in a business casual environment and its also perfect wknd wear or non-office wear. The see through back plate where you can see the watch gears moving is a nice feature. Lightweight, high quality leather round this watch out. Highly recommended.UPDATE (July 2012): I've had the watch for a couple more months now and still like it. The one downside I have discovered is that when you take the watch off at night, and if its not fully wound, then it tends to lose a couple of minutes the next morning. It seems like as the watch unwinds, it slows down. The claim that the watch has 42 hours of reserve power when fully wound is not true in my case. I would say that fully wound, you can get maybe 12-24 hours before it starts to slow down or just stop altogether. Therefore, if you don't wear this watch all the time, 7 days a week, then you need to constantly wind the watch and/or sync up the time when you strap it on.UPDATE (July 2013): This watch is still working....more or less. I have started running into issues where the watch would get "stuck". In other words it would stop running while I'm wearing it and I would have to tap the watch and shake it to make it start working again. There are other times where it would stop running in the middle of the day because it was fully unwound even though I wore it all day. I would have to wind it up manually and tap it a few times to get it to work again. Seems like the automatic wind function is broken or very weak where the only way to keep the watch running is to manually wind it. Based on this longer term experience with the watch I adjusted the rating to 3 stars.UPDATE (October 2014): The watch is now on its last leg. I noticed last week that the watch, when fully wound, will get stuck when the seconds hand reaches the 10 on the watch dial. I have to give the watch a hard tap to get it unstuck where it will rotate around until it reaches the 10 again and comes to a stop at which point I have to tap it to get the seconds hand moving. The watch is clearly broken even though I have treated this watch with care. It's really unfortunate, because its a nice watch and I wore it all the time but for a $400+ item, its extremely disappointing because you are assuming you are buying a top quality item for that price. I tried to use the Amazon Watch Repair warranty but that's a 2 year limited warranty which has since expired. When I first purchased this watch, I rated it 5 stars, over time I lowered the rating slightly for various reasons and now two and a half years later, I have reached the bottom and give it 1 star.

Great Watch, But the strap is dark green / not black
Very fast shipping. Great price. Watch came in perfect condition. The description says black watch face and black strap but it is not. even the photo has me fooled. Its really hard to tell indoors but when you go outside in the sun you can tell the strap is actually dark green. the watch face is a blackish grey, not really a deep black. Besides that its a great watch. so far very accurate time keeping.

liked it but returned it. Here is why
The case is way too soft. Loved the proportion of it and the design was simple and nice. Workhorse movt was carefree. But at the end, the watch was returned due to less than acceptable case material. Again, it was too soft and easily marked upon contact with harder surface.

Not changing date accordingly
The date doesn’t change at midnight, changes after midday which is not good as well as the watch stand still after two days of no movement
