A graphic novel on film
Baise-Moi works because of the excellent chemistry between the two female leads. Their performances are outstanding, but the viewer must understand the nature of the film to appreciate the excellence of the work. Some might not feel thata graphic novel could ever be the basis for an "excellent" movie. Baise-Moi is clearly not for everyone, as the extreme andfoolish censorship by some French bureaucrat has illustrated. The explicit sex is extremely brief, in my opinion, andnot pornographic at all. The violence is very tame, consisting of gunshots like small firecrackers and quick "deaths",similar to a character shown lying face down in one frame of a graphic novel. The movie is a visual presentation of scenes from the genre of adult comics, but the relationship of the two female leadsbecomes quite powerful and carries the movie to a second genre of female friends road picture. This is outstanding, and the personal backgroud of each actress, ( it seems to me), gives them a unique and powerful ability to become thecharacters they are portraying.Watch the features section. You will see that the two leads in real life are strikingly similar to their characters in this movie. You will also meet the second pair of female friends who wrote and overcame all obstacles so that this movie could be produced. In fact, all four of these women seem remarkably similar, which is fascinating. And each is also quite unique.I am very pleased to have had the full range of experiences available on this dvd. I cannot say more about the film withoutgiving away too much information to those who have not yet had the pleasure of watching Baise-Moi.

“Weird we should meet like that, huh?” [Nadine]
In this explicit French crime thriller [with English subtitles], part time pornstar Manu [Raffaela Anderson] kills her brother when he implies she is a slut after she is gang raped. Meanwhile Prostitute Nadine [Karen Bach, aka Karen Lancaume] murders her room mate after an argument. Both girls meet as they attempt to flee. Striking up an uneasy friendship, they both hit the road and soon embark on a violent killing spree and sexual odyssey.Picture quality is a bit grainy but adds to the sleazy atmosphere. With coarse and crude language throughout, violent rape, cold blooded shootings with explicit sex scenes [although 12 seconds have been cut]. This is a road trip of sorts, but lacks the humour of ‘Beautiful Creatures’ and the cutesy sentimentality of ‘Thelma and Louise.’ This is a warts an all journey through the dark side of life by two emotionally damaged characters ostracised by all around. The single disc offers play, scene selection and extras [making of, Q&A session, trailer, other trailers, coming soon trailers]. This is not an easy film to watch, although explicit, it’s not erotic or designed to titillate, it’s simply violent, functional and quite sad. The characters lash out at all around, even those who try to help and sympathisers fare the worst. It’s a realistic and sobering vision of the ostracised, written and directed by those that have ‘lived’ it. If sex, nudity, violence and swearing offends, then you’ll be shocked by this. If you want a hard hitting portrayal of urban depravity and retaliation, then this will do the trick if you’ve a hard enough stomach to sit through it. A definite X rating.

Really?
I've seen this dvd cover for years but thought 'd finally check it out. Not what I expected. Awful characters in badly filmed raw form including some pornography - and not in a good way! It may have a cult following but even at its short run time, I didn't care at all about it when it finished.

It's good but not brilliant.
Why this was banned in France, the mind boggles. The acting is superb but I believe there should of been a better ending. The film starts of with arguments with family and a house mate. Then one of them Raffaëla Anderson and a friend are taken by two kids and a Adult and raped in a disused warehouse. Karen Bach is just relaxing in her apartment when her pimp/customer gets shot outside. Eventually they bump into each other and as their lives are similar they team up together and go on a killing spree, Say the wrong word, look at them the wrong way, just being in the wrong place at the wrong time and these two not just the male but also the females are shot, mainly for their money or car. As for the Sex it's not bad that being the reason why was it banned in France it didn't do anything for me. As for the whole it is two girls who's life's are just boring, being told what to do by others all the time and they decide enough is enough let's have some fun before we go but unfortunately Karen Bach gets caught and all you can imagine is the gillatine if they have the death penalty in France. A good watch but should of been better.

Arrow's BAISE-MOI DVD Release
This movie is banned has been banned in certain territories and I was a little bit surprised that it was available in the UK. I've been waiting for a BR release but it never came so I decided to get it now, Amazons price was hard to pass by. Watching the film I realised that it would be pointless releasing this film on BR since it was shot on S-Video, and for some reason this passed me by when I did a little research on the film.Arrow has released a very nice DVD package, an informative booklet and a decent sized documentary which features extensive interviews with the writer, director, and the two leading actresses who are honest about their involvement in the film as well as their previous roles they played before taking part in BAISE-MOI.
