Telephony Modem--Great; ISP--what to expect
I started using this a month ago. I have had no problems; the 4stars is because there are no problems so far, and SO FAR, it does exactly what you expect without any grief (connects, stays connected, interacts well with my old wireless router, give me phone services to where it says it will, voicemail works (though that's provided by the ISP), battery works when the power is off). Here are a couple of tips:1) you probably already know this; I did not: It has two telephone connection lines, but telephone line 1 is the one that works. My guess is you'd have to order another phone line from your ISP to have both or either work.2) Some one asked this as a question earlier: Does it only work in CT (conneticut)? This one also works on the opposite (western) shore.3) If you're using this with Comcast, expect issues will billing, connecting using them, etc.I need to stress, the modem worked FINE. The problem was strictly with comcast.READ BELOW FOR POTENTIAL COMCAST SQUABBLINGSMy dwelling allowed me to self-connect, so for the first time, that's what I ordered. The person from whom I ordered the service (person from a Electronics Store X kiosk) goofed stuff up thrice:A) the person somehow scheduling a person to come out and install it, even after we both agreed I could self install, and no I didn't want the service visit. The call to inform me of this came the day before the service, and after comcast scheduling hours. I cancelled it, but the service person showed up anyways (and to his credit, a bit early). Because that was comcast's issue, I wasn't charged for that.B) The sales person somehow had in their mind that I needed to rent a modem even after I explained for about 10 minutes how I had just purchased my own telephony Arris TM722g Modem, and NO I didn't want to rent comcast's modem.(GREAT phone quote: well that's NICE, and you can keep that for your own use, but you NEED to rent a comcast modem for your service to work, so let me put that on your order, ok?) <<suddenly the whole "no means yes" argument mentality becomes clear to me>>So naturally my first bill shows a modem rental. Comcast claimed was removed after a phone call from me.C) I don't know if this was this sales person or someone else on comcast's end, but my first bill had two charges for this mythical "self install" kit. I expected the charge for one, but not both. I was told by comcast that I had two services, so I got charged for each one. (????) Turns out though that this "self install" kit IS an actual kit, with cables, and clamps, and instructions. Snicker if you must, but the way I had been told about this over several years from comcast employees is that the self install kit was the gracious discount you got for not having a service professional come by and do the job for you.The problem was that due to whatever chaos my order was obviously causing comcast, SOME one put down that I was to pick up said kits from a local office. (without notifying me of my necessity to do this.) But this worked to my advantage.I of course not "knowing" this was necessary, didn't, and connected the modem, the phone, and everything else using cables I already had. I had the thing up and running in 20 minutes, most of which was spent re-rereading the activation directions on screen. The only thing the comcast office did was answer my phone call, and take my MAC numbers (one for the phone, one for the internet) and activate it.After I told comcast I had never never received the kits, and they confirmed it, they said they took that off my bill as well. The short story of this is:If you want to save money, and have control over your own stuff, you can. But you will have to wrestle with folks who think you should have to pay them for, SOMETHING. Breathing, and thinking I guess. It will take some effort, but yes, it can be done.If you want to have ease life, you can. Don't buy this, and pay extra. You won't have to find creatively polite ways to deal with uninformed sales people, service people, or technicians. You won't discover how your bills actually are charged to you, or exactly what you're paying for. You won't know how things work, and will always be depended on some one else doing for you. You won't have that extra money ($8/month, $30 excessive charges, $XX extra fees) either, but hey, at least you will be at ease, at least in this area.

Great way to save money on your cable bill, POOR experience with Comcast! Be prepared!
I purchased this modem to replace the EXACT same modem that I was leasing from Comcast. When I received the package, it included instructions for activation and some 'troubleshooting' for that activation. Apparently, lots of customers have had issues getting the modem installed and activated because, let's face it, not many people know that they can use owned equipment. This modem is one of only TWO that enables Comcast voice; given the BAD reviews for the model with the wireless router built in, I opted for this.I opened the box, followed the instructions and IMMEDIATELY activated it. My modem worked without a hitch. I thought, "Well, that was easy!" I couldn't have been more wrong. When I went to return my leased modem to Comcast, they told me that my new modem wasn't registering on the account; that when they would remove the leased modem from the account, my voice/internet service would terminate. What???!!! Again, the want to make it as horribly difficult for you to own your own equipment. Given that they are charging $120 per year these days, their RETAIL payback is in less than 1.5 years; at a wholesale cost and at the volume they are buying, I'm sure it takes only a few months for them to be making a profit off of these boxes! What a racket! After about 15 minutes, some phone calls to their tech support (yes, I was actually AT their offices; the reps had to call their own tech support), some magic happened and they made sure my 'customer owned' equipment was put on the account. And I received a billing change acknowledgement. If you buy this, you'll have to jump through hoops (either in person or on the phone) to get it properly activated and put on your account / billed properly. Be prepared for that. But afterwards, your payback will be in less than 1.5 years.FYI, the seller's flyer regarding activation was helpful, but shipping by the seller (Electronics Prime LLC) was slow...given that they actually shipped USPS Priority but took over a week to actually get it into the hands of the Post Office...puzzling.
