Nice Change
These shoes fit about the same as the Chameleon 4's. But they are a lace-up model and sturdier. I had ordered some of the Moab's, which I had owned before, but the toes were very cramped and I had to return them. These have a normal Merrell fit. As somebody noted, the traction is not the greatest on wet rocks, but they are good for all around light hiking and casual wear. They are stiffer than either the Chameleon 4's or the Moab's. They might not breathe well enough for warm weather use but they are fine for me. I do kind of miss the slip on convenience of the 4's, but then the 4's are kind of a weird looking shoe. I like these and would buy them again.

A Bit Snug .... May need some breaking in.
This my second pair of this model by Merrell. My first pair have lasted for 10 years. Inside padding just wearing out. I don't recall the first pair being this snug but that was a long time ago.I think that it may be that these shoes start out a bit snug & then break in with use. I purchases a size ten & my big toe comes in contact with the toe of the shoe. So it is very snug.I am hoping that they will "break in" over the next few weeks.

My favorite shoe of all time. I wish I could still get them.
Super hard/impossible to find this shoe anymore. Sadly! I loved loved loved this design. I wore them every day for over a year... into the office, hiking on trails, and while teaching recreational/scientific tree climbing. Comfortably wide-ish toe box, sturdy sole that is still flexible enough to feel contact with the ground... really, probably my favorite shoe of all time. Anyway, I just tried a pair of Chameleon 7's and they do not hold a candle to these fantastic 5's! Go check out my scathing review of the 7's if you are curious.

The only shoes I wear...
These continue to be in my estimation the best shoes I've ever worn! Over the last 10 years I have purchased 6 pair of these shoes, I've only worn a pair or two to the point I threw them out, the rest are relegated to cutting grass or outings where I know they'll be subject to the worst elements. My new pairs are worn to work everyday... People ask how I can order shoes from Amazon... I respond that the Merrell line of shoes are consistently sized, and I've never had problem with sizing. I have a pair Chameleon 4 that are waterproof, and they are slightly tighter than the ventilator, but not enough to have a detrimental impact...

They are great
My wife got me wearing Merrells years ago and I have never looked back. I have had surgery on both feet and this is why I only wear Merrells. They are the ones I can wear with comfort and no pain. I use them for everyday, not just hiking. This pair replaced an older pair but at this point they are just as good. Too soon to know how they will be in the next couple of years but I think they will be as good if not better.

Perfect fit Great Value!!!
My husband had been looking all over for a versatile as well perfect fitting work and play shoe. We had gone to a very large popular big box store, he tried them on, fell in love and we went home and I scoured the internet to find the best deal. These shoes fit the bill for everything he had been looking for, he loves the Keen's but they didn't have the metal eyelets for the shoestrings, these provided for the metal eyelets and the superior support that he needed...PERFECT!!!!

Great while it lasts.
Let me start out by saying that I generally only ever own one pair of shoes. That being said, after about five months of owning these, I'm likely going to have to purchase another. I do walk a lot, but I don't hike all that often, and these shoes are already generated large holes in the sides. It took almost two years before my previous pair (Merrell Moab Ventillators) started generating the same holes, and they were about half of $130 I spent on these shoes. While they didn't have holes, they were extremely comfortable and I could wear them for hours without noticing I still had shoes on. Unfortunately, they just didn't last long enough to warrant me buying another pair of these shoes.

Very nice, well built shoe
Very nice, well built shoe. Decided to go this route for everyday shoes after a string of lesser shoes that just didn't last very long. Hopefully these will be okay. They do run a bit small - about right in length, but low volume/narrow. I have low volume foot and these fit very well. On most shoes I have to lace them together very tightly, these fit just right just the way they are.

Well-made shoe
These were pretty much as expected. They appear solid and well-made but not too heavy. I was looking for a shoe that tended towards the minimalist, but that would stand up to fairly tough ground and to damp. A walking shoe as opposed to a walking boot, if you like. I think these will fit the bill. The description states that they are flat, having no heel, and that seems to be true. They're also suitably low-cut, unlike walking boots, which attempt to "support" the ankle by restricting its movement -- not really a very good plan. For preference I would have had something even a little more minimalist, less boot-like and more moccasin-like: the Vibram sole is rather stiff, and it feels like there's some "arch support" -- like "ankle support" another unnecessary and counter-productive feature of over-engineered footwear. But they're pretty good, and, I think, deliver on what they set out to do.I haven't worn them out yet, let alone in a range of conditions, but decided that they probably deserve 5 stars going by the first look over and trying on.I was VERY wary of the sizing. These are U.S.-made and I believe that U.S. shoes sizes, like Continental shoe-sizes, don't map precisely onto British sizes. In the past I've found Vivobarefoot shoes, trainers and boots to be notoriously bad fits. The Vivo shoes, though made in the U.K. for the British market, and although sold in "British" sizes are, in fact, MADE in Continental sizes -- a disastrous manufacturing choice, in my opinion. What you're actually getting is something that's approximately like the British size you're used to, and depending on whether your foot's a little bigger or smaller than that, you may find it won't quite go into what's sold as the closest equivalent to said British size.I'm size 10 in British shoes (which is, officially, 44 in Continental sizes and, I think, 11 in U.S. sizes). However, Continental 44s -- and shoes made to Continental lasts even though sold as 10s (I'm looking at you now, Vivobarefoot Company) -- squeeze my feet like a vice.I'll cut to the chase. I bought the Merrells in what's sold as equivalent to British 10-and-a-half. They're just right, fit like a glove, with a slightly thicker sock on there'd certainly be no room to spare. So I think if anything it might be helpful to buy slightly bigger. U.S. sizes, like Continental ones, don't map precisely onto British ones, and the conversion charts used only give approximations.

Great shoe for anyone with wide feet across the toes
Great shoe for anyone with wide feet across the toes. I got the wrong size due to always needing a size too large so that my toes are not squashed. These shoes should fit me perfectly in a 1/2 size smaller, unfortunately I can't find any (despite them being made in 1/2 sizes, I think), I will keep looking because the shoes are very supportive, very comfortable, very light with excellent Vibram soles. An edge on the sole might be nice for scrambling but then they wouldn't be so neat and they are, very neat and clunk free.

Awesome
Having bought other brands before - never online - I was interested in trying Merell, not only because of the apparent quality of the product but also to try a different brand. I am quite satisfied with the fit, it's perfect, although half a size larger than the sports shows that I bought at the same time, it's a perfect fit with a thicker/warmer sock intended for trekking and walking in colder months - although even with a lighter sock it's good as well. The quality seems to be worth it, of the brand and the price, but as with the sports shoes, only time and use will tell if they last.Overall a very good purchase in my opinion.
