Have I become an awsome gamer overnight, or is it the mouse?
It is the mouse.I saw the latest Cyborg R.A.T. 9 mouse, but I was like "Paying $150 for a mouse is stupid."Then I thought "What does their least expensive model look like?" I bought it because it looks cool, but it works even better than it looks. First off it is a very high quality piece of kit. The construction reminds me of my RC10T radio controlled racing truck. An aluminum frame with RIM parts. The braided cord is long, flexible and looks tough. Although it looks chunky the ergonomics are excellent (I have a Masters in ergonomics). I like that one can adjust the up-down and left-right sensitivity separately. The wheel rolls nicely with little detents that make changing weapons in games much more positive. One bump and you have the next gun, no more back and forth until you land on the one you wanted. Adjusting the dpi of the mouse on the fly is very useful. I set it to 2400 dpi (800,1200,2400,3600) and slow down the mouse response slider in Windows and games. It is highly responsive without being twitchy. I can check doorways and corners in Call of Duty really quickly. If you like, one can speed up the response for running around and slow it down for aiming. I don't bother to do that. Where I find it really useful is in PhotoShop. When I want to do fine detail I lower the mouse dpi with the toggle switch behind the wheel. I especially like the thumb-rest 'wing' on the left side. It keeps your thumb from dragging on the mouse pad. The position of the two thumb buttons is perfect. I don't really find the programmable button useful. I would always start a game in Windows mode and find things were not working properly, so I set it to default and forget it. If you play a game with lots of inputs you may have a use for that feature. My only complaint is the Teflon under the mouse is kind of thin. I had MOUSE SKATES under my old mouse and they were much nicer.I have a kick-ass mouse now and I had to get a kick-ass mouse pad to do it justice. No Biggie. The bottom line is in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, I was never that good, but I loved to play anyway. My gamer tag was 'Joe Target'.After a week with the R.A.T.3 I changed my tag to 'Fearless Leader'.Nuff said.

Specific for the R.A.T 3, thoughts
I bought this mouse because I wanted a comfortable, functional mouse that would suit my gaming and browsing needs along with going well with my new computer. I'm not going to say that this is a fantastic and a must buy, but neither am I going to relentlessly criticize it while completely contradicting well written 5 star reviews (a persistent occurance here on amazon). As the title says I did buy the R.A.T 3 and I say so because I see most reviews on this page to be only about the 5-9 models.First I will start with what I liked about the mouse and my first impressions etc etc.The shipping was painless, quick, and arrived perfect as I have come to expect from amazon (super saver shipping). It comes in a nicely packaged box, nice design. I expected it to come with a disk for the drivers and software but no big deal. The mouse itself is a good size, not to large or small. overall it is very stylish and appears to be pretty well made. After downloading the software I opened up the program and tried configuring buttons to test it out. All went well, and it is very easy to map the buttons. The main buttons were adequate but the scroll wheel and dpi switch I thought felt great. The tracking performance worked fine with no errors to speak of. Lifting the mouse will not do anything like what is said about the more advanced models dual eye sensor. Now moving to the negative points, and what earned this mouse its final score.First, even though aspects of the mouse appear well made and look good, two things really annoyed me. The profile switch button LCD indicator looked cheap and the red wire going through the bottom of the mouse looks very poorly constructed. I could overlook this easily if it weren't for this mouse simply being not very comfortable. Two things contribute mainly to why I dislike the mouse so much, first the lack of smoothness on the body and the placement of certain things give my hand a feeling of constraint or a feeling of not being able to move much without hitting something. Second is the shape of the palm rest. it is a little higher than the front of the mouse and has an awkward ridge dropping off the right side of it making it very irritating over time. This may not seem like that big a deal but it makes all the difference. Enough difference to where I removed the rest entirely (yes this section is actually partially adjustable. Allen wrench or screwdriver required) to see if it helped. After using the mouse for some time for browsing and playing a few games I felt unsatisfied for the price paid and decided to return it and will likely update this review with how it turns out. I am now considering some other models of computer mice including the popular mx518, the razer deathadder, and the appealing SteelSeries Xai.One last word, everyone is different and opinions of mice can vary radically from person to person. If possible you should try to demo the mouse first and see how you like it. In conclusion, I hope everybody can find a decent mouse they like (and don't throw away the receipt!). I hope this review was informative and set apart from the rest.

Great Mouse
I have had this mouse for over two years and its still working greatPros1. Great feel, this mouse may look like a transformer with its jagged edges but it does not feel like it looks, it fits very well in my hand, even before I found out that its palm rest is variable, now after I have adjusted it, its even better. The mat finish gives it a good grippy feel as well.2. Durable, other reviewers may have had issues but I have not. My mouse has not had an easy desk life, I bring it with me to school, to work, anywhere I may use a computer I bring it with and it has performed brilliantly.Cons1. Only two programmable buttons, not that i want 100 buttons on a mouse but if you are looking for more that a forwards and back button you may need to look elsewhere *cough* rat5 *cough*2. While durable i have had a problem with the fabric wire sheathing on the USB cable, the fabric kinked the cable so i carefully cut the fabric so that it would not damage the cable. Now there is a section of cable that is exposed. While not damaging the function it did damage the ascetics.3. The ability to change the position of the palm rest was not mentioned anywhere in the documentation for this mouse though it should be because it is much better now that I have adjusted it, it just takes an Allen wrench and a Philips head screwdriverSummaryGreat mouse for the price, but if you want a more buttons not for you.

Good but needs more attention to demand
Strong build on this mouse unfortunately it falls flat on hotkeys that constantly fight with me and I believe this is down to a lack of testing with players to see if the buttons interfere with their experience. It certainly did with me especially the thumb restThe R.A.T does certainly gives you control of the DPI and also allows you to ensure that you have massive control on the different ways you can play your games. Profiles are on the fly and depending on the way you play will definitely make you versatile for three types of game genres.League of Legends players will certainly benefit from this, but I feel that you are better off with the R.A.T 5 or even 7 depending on your needs as the R.A.T 3 does not come with weights and is not supported because of the way it is built and the fact of the price tag so you're basically getting what you paid for.The design is comfortable for the most part with the exception of the hotkeys resting on the thumb rest which made my experience quite annoying to say the least. After a good while I did get used to it but i feel if they made the buttons on the thumb rest more subtle, it will be a much better mouse. I did particularly like the way the buttons are integrated within the top of the mouse so that I can access a hotkey without having to shift the entire hand to press it./// Note ///As of the 16th February, I have replaced my mouse for the "AnkerĀ® 8200 DPI High Precision Mouse" as the springs were failing and needed replacing since it was out of warranty. Granted it did last me for three years with moderate to heavy use so it all comes to what you want to use it for. Thanks for reading

A SNAZZY FUTURISTIC
OK before i go on to giving a review,on the mouse itself. After receiving the mouse,i plugged it in to my PC.And then i realized that i needed to download the drivers and software.(Not included, but installation chart say's insert CD.)All this and i still had to have my old mouse plugged in.(A good job it still worked)It was somewhat annoying since i had to download drivers x2 and software x2,because i use win7 32bit and win7 64 bit OS.I thought that all software would have been included with the purchase of the mouse.OK in this day and age manuals and software are available on line.(But remember if your old mouse is Knackered, then you may have problems)Now on to the mouse,I love the design of this mouse. It just looks Awesome and futuristic. There are many functions of this mouse that can be found elsewhere. But here is something that i found out.The mouse has a adjustable (cup of the hand).(Not shown or advertised)So to adjust the mouse(cup). On the left side of the mouse, you should see a Allen screw, unscrew and remove the mouse attachment.(side pod etc.)Once it is removed you will see to the rear a small Philips screw.Simply unscrew the screw and slide the mouse cup attachment to suit your hand size. A big disappointment
If I spend more than thirty quid on a mouse, I expect it to last at least a couple of years. I bought one of these in September 2013. Here we are eight months later, and it's given up the ghost: the only thing that still works is the scroll wheel. The internal construction is flimsy and the switchgear used is cheap (search for disassembly videos and you'll see what I mean). Frankly, it just hasn't been up to the task and I've just consigned it to the bin.The driver software that comes with it isn't great, either - for using apps like Photoshop I really noticed a drop in system responsivity. I've now gone back to a ten quid Gigabyte mouse that's outlasted the RAT3 by several years, and after uninstalling the MAD Catz drivers my machine's running faster again.

Absolutely brilliant.
Phenomenal mouse. Fast Delivery and so accurate. For the last few years I have been using a Trust RedBull Xtreme gaming mouse. Which is also of very high quality. But the RAT3 is far superior in usability and comfort.I was very sceptical about buying the RAT3 simply because of it's ergonomics. I was worried it would be uncomfortable, and or irritating over long periods of time. Looks however can be deceiving and were so very rightly in this case!It is very comfortable, and adjustable too.The buttons to change DPI settings and Mode button, are a little stiff, but I'm sure over time they will wear in properly. The mouse is silky smooth and due to the recommendation from a friend, I will recommend this even further. It's simply great. Precise, fast, and functional.I love it.This is my personal opinion, coming from a mild gamer, but most internet browser and professional video editor.Take care
