Using this with my Macbook Pro---size and picture is nice, but my text is very sub-par. Lots of jaggies. Anyone using it with a Mac?
Anyone know the dimensions of the screen itself?
does it work via hdmi becaucse i thought hdmi only did 1920x1080 and this is 2560x1080
How is this for competitive gaming? It lists 5ms which is great for IPS. Should i go with a 144 hz, 1ms TN or is the contrast benefit here worth it?

Day One, Week One... Year plus Later

when one selects a monitor it has to have something which causes it to stand up and say, Select Me.I began reading about the AOC Q2963PM several days ago and ordered it two days ago Prime and here it is... Now, is it everything I had expected it to be. Did it perform as advertised. How was my experience going to compare to others who I have read in the various reviews.I had also ordered a 6 screen stand and DVI cable to go along with my new purchase.. all arrived on time with Prime.I have odd setup, an older Dell 24WPS, which works flawlessly for 7 years now, an old Acer 193W and an even older Vizio 22 inch TV, then, last year I updated one other monitor with a simple touch screen, Viewsonic TD2220, all running on a pair of Galaxy GTX560's. It was a mess. They were placed anywhere I could make them fit and still have useful work space. The Vizio TV had been acting up and the Acer 193w is limited to 900 x 1440, but is working fine. I decided to pickup the AOC Q2963, it would replace both of those. I had concerns if my 560's would hold up to my new screen, I had read there were some cable issues and maybe some settings which may be important.Desk space is a premium for everyone, How everything one piles upon one's desk makes it easier or more complex for one to operate, well, my old setup of books to make one monitor taller or brackets to hold another all got sorted out and cleaned up, this new 6 screen stand was rated for 6 - 24 inch screens up to 20+ pound support each.the old Dell 24WPS makes an excellent full page screen and it's own stand is perfect, I wanted to retain at least the full page so, I began my new setup, with my touchscreen 22 front and center, the dell stand up to one side and this new 29 inch AOC Q2963 center on the upper section of this 6 screen stand,,, well.. it not only looked odd, ok, odder then I normally had my monitors, I had spaces and horrific gaps, the first setup, was not going to work. still sticking with I wanted the Dell standing up, I lowered the new AOC and placed the 22 Viewsonic TD2220 all on the lower arm, they fit rather well, granted the Dell still reaches the desk tabletop, barely hanging a cm of the table, but it is standing full page... the new AOC is wonderful front and center and I can reach over to the touch screen for all my primary needs. That left me with this entire upper monitor arm, unused, and I couldn't leave it at that. like I said earlier, the Vizio TV did work but was flaky and even today gave me problem on an off, and that little Acer 193W, well it's been around a while.. Now it's in the upper deck.. as a full page monitor, the pair of GTX 560's, purr... one of my next up grade may be new video cards..the AOC Q2963PM, I first used the mini-hdmi on the 560 to hdmi, the screen looked beautiful, Win 8.1 Pro did not ask me if I wanted 2560x1080, It just set it up, But, I also have a Microsoft Surface 2, I was using my home TV for big screen, I switched to the AOC, it works fantastic. I connected the new DVI cables back to the PC system and left the Surface 2 connected to the hdmi however, the PIP only supports either the old VGA D-Sub or the Displayport. I had to do it, I popped on a converter and ran and old Vga cable, and the AOC monitor didn't skip a beat. I used an hdmi converter to DVI and run my Asus VivoSmart Tab on that.. this thing is fun.. pic in picture works well... after hours of laying everything out, many times, I'm considering a second purchase to dedicate one to my Roku 3I passed my considerations along and purchased the second monitor... side by side or one on top of the other, these monitors are beautiful.. simple.. I do not yet have a displayport able video card, that is next on my list... however I am happy with the performance of these two old GTX 560's.month later.... zero complaints1 1/2 years later... after running these AOC Q2963PM's.. I upgraded my video cards, I am now using a AMD R9 295X2 and a Nvidia 760 GTX.. these AOC's are connected to the AMD, until yesterday, I had been using the DP @2560X1080 @60, I made a change in cabling, Now, I am able to use the setting 2560X1440 @60 HDMI... although, it is not the recommended..

Good, but slightly flawed monitor

Pros: A large and rather attractive monitor that does well for everyday needs (browsing, etc). Has plethora of features, such as Picture-in-picture, and definitely increases what you are able to see in video games which was the #1 reason for purchasing this monitor outside of artistic endeavors. Scales very well with the standard 1920x1080 resolution, meaning that most games/videos will run just fine on this monitor.Cons: In order to use Picture-in-picture this requires the purchase of a separate display port cord which is uncommon and difficult to locate at most stores. In fact, my modern graphics card doesn't even have a port for a display port cord making picture-in-picture all but impossible at this point unless an adapter works but I have not researched this yet. While the resolution does scale just fine with 1920x1080, the native resolution (2560x1080?) is hard to find apps that will support it. There also seems to be some type of refresh rate issue which causes screen tearing whenever something moves rapidly on the screen. This is especially pronounced in video games. As a minor quibble, there is no optical audio port which makes exporting sound difficult, forcing you to use 3.55? mm audio cableIn summary, I would say this is a good monitor for the price, which requires some technical knowledge and special care to fully utilize it to its full potential. I would give this 8.5 out of 10 if there were 10 stars. Despite the flaws, I do love this monitor and am overall very happy with my purchase for the price compared to the options available.

It looked funny, but it was acceptable

I've had the monitor for a year now. I'm not impressed by the quality of the product for the amount of money spent. I have a custom built PC with multiple video ports out. This model can only handle certain inputs for main source, then depending on what you choose, you have only a certain selection as secondary sources. Basically one HQ source, then the other is a lower quality source. I've tried to use PBP mode, one side would display at full screen, then the second side was just undersize with a 1/4 border around it. It looked funny, but it was acceptable. If you left the monitor off for 24 hours, it would forget the PBP settings. So the PC would boot, but it picked the wrong source, and display a blue desktop. The real desktop, was on the other source, which now I had to use the hardware buttons on the monitor to make the primary source. So I could see the desktop. The software included had a save configuration function, but it never worked properly. Doing a restore it never restored any settings that I could tell. Now after several months, the PBP settings will not display the proper resolutions. Each screen now has over a 2 inch border around each screen. So I'm looking at a display around 9" on the diagonal. So my IPad 2 has a larger display screen then my $350 monitor.Of course I called tech support, but they could not help me. The last call I was told the tech would get a model from the warehouse and he would call me back...I would spend my money on 2 or 3 separate monitors then buying this one. Poor quality, software supplied doesn't work, tech support not helpful.TM

Great monitor at a great price

Great monitor at a great price. Easy to set up, and AOC's support is the best. They solved a problem I was having that was actually an issue with Windows 8 and not the monitor setup itself. Killer for video games or split-screen apps -- I will never go back to a regular monitor again.

Incompatible with Mac, poor customer support

I purchased 2 of these monitors. Had issues with both. The first one was connected to a Macbook Pro through HDMI. The picture quality was atrocious. It was quite clear that the "sharpness" was turned way too high and it could not be turned down because the monitor disabled the sharpness setting -- apparently it does that when connected through a digital source. The same monitor worked fine on a PC. So, first problem is that this monitor is *incompatible with Mac*. It MAY work if you choose a non-HDMI connector, but I can't speak to that. I ended up using an Ultrawide LG for the Mac which did allow changing the sharpness setting. No idea why AOC decided to disable this setting! The second monitor had a manufacturing defect -- it had a line of dead pixels going from the top to bottom of the screen. It took almost 3 weeks for AOC to replace the monitor and only after constant prodding from the reseller and myself. They scheduled a replacement 3 times and decided *not* to show up the first two times. The excuses given were so ridiculous that it was borderline funny. Bottom line is, I wont be purchasing any AOC products again.

Very high quality monitor. The praise is not false.

Been having this monitor for around a month now and I am very impressed with it, especially considering that many other monitors like this cost around 900 mark or more. This one does everything I need it to. I do not understand why would I spend more money, as I can not detect any flaws in it and it actually has some advantages too.Advantages:- Very good build. Almost entirely metal, this thing weights more than my 32 inch Sony Bravia TV. It looks very sturdy. It also has special anti-scratch and shock-resistant panel on top of the screen. It doesn't interfere with the picture at all, but it prevents the screen from external harm. And it is quite a good plate too, for example even touching the screen and applying pressure will not create the distortions that you would see on most other screens, be it PC, TV or anything else.- Screen does not heat up and create strong magnetic fields. Unlike TFT screens IPS panels do not heat up, which means the screen will not serve to further dry up the room's air. Furthermore it seems to generate much weaker magnetic field (my father's a physicist, so I have the devices to measure), which means it will not accelerate dust into your eyes like many other other monitors do. This doesn't mean you shouldn't take breaks to relax your eyes a little every now and then, but it does mean that the screen it generally friendlier to the eyeball.- IPS panel. As you know. The more expensive IPS panel provides much better color reproduction than TFT screens and generally results in a richer, more vibrant pictures. It is especially good for longer sessions, as it is not so tiring for the eyes (again).- Very fast for an IPS screen. This screen is also extremely fast. It says 6ms, but to be honest I found it to be more like 3 or 4, which is even faster than my old BenQ TFT screen. The overdrive is unnoticeable at all and also has 3 levels you can choose between to suit your needs. This is very good, considering that most IPS screens do not allow to customize the pixel overdrive levels.- Good OCD options. A fair bit of options on OCD. One in particular is good: time out option. I set it to 45s so it doesn't disappear while I am calibrating. The screen also natively supports PnP inputs and Picture in Picture mode. For example you can turn on the mode, plug in your secondary device (e.g. mobile) and it will show your mobile device's screen alongside the desktop on the monitor. Not drivers or anything required. Handy for the office use.- Higher-than-normal colour gamut. This is an advantage over the more expensive models, as this screen has a slightly bigger colour gamut reproduction than majority of the screens on the market. This is exceptionally useful if you are working with things for printing but it also just provides a more pleasant experience. It is noticeable. I have a second screen working right next to it and the colour reproduction of the IPS panel combined with the increased colour gamut of this screen make for a startling difference.Differences:- 21:9 Ultrawide experience is something you'll have to get used to. I personally love it, it not only makes my eyes and head move, but also provides a more relaxed experience in games, work or movies if I watch them. Having more screen space resonates well with how human brain works, as it is used to having to focus on one thing and having a lot of detail left in the peripheral vision. With smaller screens you have less space, but same level of detail, and as such your eyes have to focus on all of the detail, which can at times make you just a little bit tired. That said, this kind of experience is very different and people with conservative mindset may find it uncomfortable due to it's large deviation from the norm.- 2560x1080 resolution takes it's toll. If you are a gamer, this screen will need a good GPU. I have a GTX770 OC with a second GTX460 dedicated to PhysX and CUDA when I do 3D CG rendering. With this setup I am having no major issues with framerate. Warframe dropped from usual 140-160 to 100fps, maxed out, nothing that I would notice. Left 4 Dead 2 and Stanley Parable as well as other Source games don't seem to struggle either. Sleeping Dogs, Dead Space 3, all those ran fine on this setup; that said, I have not yet tried Witcher 2 or Crysis 3 with this resolution yet. Whatever the case, I think my setup is about the average of what you'll need for comfortable gaming at native resolution of this screen.- 60Hz monitor. Like all IPS screens, this does not go higher than 60 with default settings. You can, however, OC it to around a 100, which is ludicrous considering it's size, panel and most importantly: price. Really really good. However having higher refresh rate also means that anything that runs at lower fps than that will appear more sluggish. If you are capable of unleashing 100+ fps in all games, by all means. But I have a pleasant enough experience with 60Hz.- Weight. Like I mentioned, it's really heavy. If this matters to you, then well, it's a disadvantage. But to me, as one who has it at home desktop and not planning to take it anywhere? I couldn't give a toss.Disadvantages:- Poor factory calibration. This screen is badly calibrated out of the box. It looks weird with overabundance of red, very poor whites, compensated with hugely overpowered brightness. If you buy it, get ready to do some heavy calibration. I spent 2 hours making a good picture on it. Brightness is especially an issue. It's just insane. I have it at 20% now and it's still quite a bit brighter than my old screen. It might be good on a sunny day if you are sitting far away, but normally I have to cut it way down and readjust contrast and colours to compensate for the change in the level of whites.- No tilting or height adjustments. Well tilting is kinda useless on a screen like this, but height adjustment, I do miss. You CAN adjust the facing angle of the screen (looking up or down), but you can not rotate it around the depth axis (e.g. make it into a portrait orientation or something). Height adjustment for a large screen like this is certainly a miss IMO. You want it to be about on your eye level for comfortable overview of it's large area. It can be a big issue if your chair does not have a height adjustment or if your table is too low.- The panel that protects the actual screen, as I mentioned above, has a little gap between the rest of the screen's body and itself. The gap surrounds the whole viewing area and it can collect dust and dirt as time goes on. It's only some 2mm wide, so cleaning it out can be a bit of a problem if left unattended for long.- It's unusual resolution WILL create compatibility issues. Especially in games. If a game does not properly support Borderless window mode (which should automatically render: NOT scale, in your native resolution) or support full screen mode in this resolution you will either have to deal with vertical black bars, horribly skewed picture or using various external tools to force renderer to work in 2560x1080. Games like Loadout do not support this resolution in any way. Sleeping Dogs UI does not scale properly with this resolution (although the engine does properly render it). Generally games which have Borderless Window mode, will work well though, so it's not a huge issue, but rather a minor annoyance. At least for me.- It's white reproduction is not amazing, even after many calibrations. Using the tests on http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ the White was the only one which I was not able to get perfectly right. The bottom right corner still didn't show any difference between the squares, as they all appeared white regardless. This is somewhat rare as most screens have the opposite issue: blacks. However this one perfectly passed the blacks test without the need for any extra calibration. It's the whites it was not able to get quite right.Overall:This is arguably the best screen for it's price on the market really. Unbelievably good for how little it asks for. I have had it only for a month, so I can not say anything about reliability yet, but as far as everything else goes, this is a ridiculously good screen. All the praise from the reviewers was not false, this really is an amazing screen, I have never had a better one, and I never did skimp on the monitors. If you have the money, and are not terribly afraid of UltraWide, buy it. Judging from what other people say, it is not prone to failure, which means you are very unlikely to find anything better for this price.

Superb - but packaging suspect

Contents of the opened box seemed to be untouched, so I took the good from the courier due to young child like excitement. Set up is plug and play and unlike other 21:9 29" widescreens I've looked at that wobble about on the feeble stand following a slight nudge of the table, this monitor is spot on.Note: if you are wall mounting, some of the connections are at the bottom of the connection to the base, therefore, the wires may show if you are after the clean look **change the main input from HMDI to DVI to solve this via the screen settings**5 Star for screen1 Star for shoddy packaging that had clearly been opened-5 Stars for me not sending the package backoverall - love this and it looks awesome on the desk.Note 2: check games you play support 2560x1080 - not all do which means they need to be played in windowed mode at their max resolution.
