Perfect... for me
I've done extensive research on this and other DAP's before purchasing, and i'm so glad I got it. I won't go into a lengthy review because the nice gentlemen before me already did that. I will elaborate on some things though. The UI is definitely primitive, like an early 2000s setup. No WiFi, bluetooth or anything of the sort. It literally has 3 options on the main screen; Music, Playing & settings. There is a reason however why Teac decided to make the UI so minimal. From what I read, having a fancy, touchscreen UI can diminish the integrity and functionality of the player itself, kind of getting in the way of the audio quality. Having internal storage also does this, which is why there's an SD drive only. By having a primitive UI, you get what you're really looking for anyway, sound reproduction. If you want a fancy touchscreen interface with many gadgets and options to play with, this isn't for you. But for me, I wanted something simple but beastly and this was it. The battery life does suck yes, it's like 6 hours of playback I think. However, I do believe this is the case with most "high(er)" end DAP's. I think it's really cool that this is also a headphone amplifier. I connected my old iPod (from 2009) and my new iPhone 6 and they both worked just fine. It says it's made for iOS devices but you can hook them up to Androids and more. The way this player organizes the music files is kind of annoying; it's NOT like a flash drive type of player like the Walkman where it would recognize folder names. There is no drag and drop, you have to do that on the SD itself when not in the unit. You have to edit each tag with at least the genre or album name. Luckily you can do a multi-edit. Once you get used to that and figure out the player's liking you won't be bothered with it. Also I wanted to point out that my player accepts MP4 files which is freaking awesome. I have several YouTube converted files that are over an hour so they had to be MP4'd and even though Teac doesn't advertise that this player accepts them, it does. It's quirky and it has it's flaws, just like any DAP. I don't see any reason I would ever want to return this or trade in for some fancier player that is $1,000 +

Easily the most frustrating audio product I've ever bought
Wow! I can't believe that there is no way to play your music through folder view. I'm so angry just trying to get this to work. Some songs show up. Others don't. I've spent about 5 hours with this thing and I am still nowhere near figuring it out. A basic UI is fine for me but it needs to be somewhat functional. The audio quality is fantastic but if I can't use it then what's the point. I updated to 1.3 firmware but still no folder view. I also can't get my Android 6.0 to connect to this device. So here I am with what should be an awesome audio product that I'm traveling around with. Instead I'm using my Xduoo X3 again which also has a simple UI with one key difference, the X3 plays everything from the second I put in the SD card. I've been archiving my record collection to DSD and the teac won't recognize 99% of the DSD files I've made yet sometimes one will be recognized. Again I have no idea why... Throw me a bone here Teac.

Good value, greate sound.
I bought this when it on sale. Great value for the sound. It has very natural, reference sound which I am looking for.I bought this because I heard some engineer of earphone company use this as a reference device for adjusting sound of their earphone product, such as VSonic.Very happy with the purchase.I know there are certain down side of this device, such as battery life, SD card related problem, but those are ok to me. And I chose this because the sound.I also compared this with Onkyo HA300, they share almost the same hardware spec, outlook, operation etc, except the amp chip on them are different. So they sound different,If you prefer more musical, forward, darker, base heavier sound, then HA300 is more suitable.

Fantastic ability to drive multi driver low impedance iems
Fantastic ability to drive multi driver low impedance iems. I am using these with the AudioFly AH180 and the Shure SE535. There is far less ear fatigue while listening or working, especially for music with a lot of quick low end. This is bc there is no pumping or compression anymore in the lows w iems, just big clear sound that doesn't jackhammer the eardrum with pressure that cant stay consistent across the full frequency spectrum. If you find yourself turning up your device past 75% to drive your headphones, iems, buds etc... consider this product or any high quality headphone amp. As for the DAC portion, I use the digital input to monitor from a soundcard for work and it does a great job. For fun I downloaded some official DSD or 96k FLAC versions of Thriller, Bad, Graceland, The Wall. The depth and width is the closest I have ever heard to what it sounds like when plugged into a mix coming off a great console in the studio (to get all nerdy imho it sounds a lot like one of the SSL J board's width and depth, but I digress). Anyways this Amp/Dac delivers an as close to the original master track experience (w DSD and High Res taken from the original masters) as I have ever heard. Pretty Cool! Now as for aesthetics, UI, battery life... just live with it. You should be here for the sound quality. No it wont charge while you playback in most cases, yes it only lasts about 6 hrs on a charge , and charges up in 9 (over usb, 4hrs over adapter that is optional). Just live with it. And if you don't think you can, then don't! This is not the product for you. But if what matters is sound (and you're alright w a merely ok user experience), and you are looking for value (I have word clocks and converters that use the same chips in this thing, and to play in in that class runs in the 4 figure minumum) this is the player for you.
