SEXY, decently speedy drive for everyday, mainstream computing at a good price
I have owned, customized, and built a lot of computers over the past 30 years. Hard drives have come a long way in regards to speed and reliability. This market has been dominated by Western Digital, Seagate, Samsung, and have been joined by traditionally-memory vendors, such as SanDisk (now owned by Western Digital). Interestingly, RAVPower has an external SSD drive available. RAVPower has been one of my favorite vendors of batteries and charging accessories at lower prices than the brand names. So, when they suddenly released a SSD drive, I took notice!WHAT DO THEY MEAN? SATA, SSD, NVMe, M.2, etc...Hard disk drives (HDD) are mechanical devices whose performance was primarily based on the RPM (revolutions per minute) rating. They were generally 5400 or 7200 RPM (and beyond) -- the higher the number, the faster it would usually perform. As with anything mechanical, they break down over time as the components age.Flash-memory based Solid State Drives (SSD) were introduced in the 1990s and were VERY expensive. SSD promised resistance to physical shock, faster performance, lower heat output, and more silent operation. Even to this day, SSD still cost more than similarly-sized HDDs.SSD and HDD connect to your computer via multiple interfaces. Relative to this RAVPower drive, we are only concerned with SATA (internally) and USB-C (externally), a newer USB standard with VERY fast throughput capability.SATA can connect two drive types:1. The physically-larger 2.5" SATA SSD (nowadays used in most laptops and desktop PCs)2. SATA M.2 SSD (typically used in Mini PCs and laptops)M.2 SSD can also be connected to the newer, significantly faster PCIe interface: those drives are known as NVMe M.2 SSD.So, what does all that mean for this RAVPower SSD drive? It's a M.2 and, thus, VERY speedy. Let's look at the PROS and CONS of this RAVPower drive.PROS- Very SEXY look- Good price- Great performance at up to 540 MB/s. It is not as fast as my Western Digital NVMe SSD (it goes to 2,400 MB/s), but for an external, USB-C drive, it is quite speedy- Surprisingly SMALL and feels great in the hand-- Metal casing with a shiny side- AES-256 encryption through the installation of the included software (it is found on the drive itself)-- Should you lose your drive (or somebody gets a hold of it), they will not be able to read your data without the encryption key/password- Can be connected as USB-C to USB-C cable or USB-A to USB-C-- Cables are included for both- Easy to use-- Plug it in, and it is ready for use- Works with Windows, Apple OSX, Samsung Galaxy S9+, iPad pro, and nearly any device that can accept a USB hard drive- Carry pouch included- 2 year warranty + 1 year upon registrationCONS- Not as fast as my existing 256GB WD Black NVMe M.2 drive or Samsung's Evo SSD line- Performance started dipping around the 15-20GB transfer mark- LED indicator light (found next to the USB-C port) is small and can be hard to see-- Light is used to display power on/off and data transfer status- Sticker ("RAVPOWER" logo side) displaying certifications, model number, etc. makes the device not look sexy. I took it off to reveal a minimalist look to the drive. I wish that the model number (and drive size) were engraved onto the drive somewhere itself. Stickers tend to fade over time- Shiny piano surfacing on the opposite side of the "RAVPOWER" logo looks nice, but can be prone to scratching. Would have been cool if the LED indicator light lit up behind that glassy surface insteadNOTES- The drive itself shows up as generic in Windows. It does not appear to be made by one of the main hard drive/SSD manufacturers- I did not open the case to see what size of M.2 drive is insideM.2 (behind M.2 NVMe) is one of the highest-performance interfaces you can connect a storage device to. Cost has steadily been coming down, and it is not difficult to recommend this RAVPower drive to the average consumer for its excellent price, great performance, and good looks. I am still very much surprised that RAVPower entered the storage market, but I am glad they have yet another winner under their brand.

Really impressed with performance and quality. Very fast. Must buy!!
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. RAVPower External SSD 1TB!! I wasn’t that excited to get this portable SSD. I have used a few of its portable chargers before from RAVPower and it was good. I thought this will also be good like the others. and this is great and impressive. I got this to mainly use it with my MacBook Pro and iPad Pro. I ran some drive speed tests and its good. I tried to copy 7GB files and it was done in less than 10secs. The packaging feels so premium. Never expected. It comes in ExFat format and full 1.02 TB memory. Other brands like Samsung and SanDisk comes with a bit less than what they say. But this is exactly 1.02TB. It comes with two cables, one with USB A to USB C and another with USB C to USB C. Very useful as they provided both. I mainly use only the USB C to USB C, but just in case we need to use it with somebody else’s device with regally USB A, we don’t have to buy another one. It has a cute little pouch for carrying. Even the pouch has an insert inside to keep the SSD safe from the cables. Really excited about RAVPower’s making. I recommend buying it if you want a portable SSD. Worth the price and value for money.

The Perfect Portable Hard Drive
I’m a photographer and needed a hard drive to store all of my pictures and videos. I used to use a WD external drive, also 1TB, but was looking for a replacement that would be smaller, faster, and that could be connected via a USB-C cord. This product came in a well-packaged box, included was: the external drive, a sleeve for storing the drive in, and a cable for both USB 2.0 and USB-C connections. This was an added bonus because I often switch from my MacBook (which only has USB-C unless you plug in an adapter) and my Surface (which only has USB 2.0 unless you plug in an adapter as well). Now I’ve had no issue switching between the two devices, with both cables being able to fit in the traveling sleeve for the drive. The first test was performance. My previous hard drive was the only one I'd ever used, so at the time I couldn’t compare its speed to another drive’s. But after using this drive for about a week, I’ve noticed faster speeds for dragging files to be stored on the drive, but most importantly faster speeds for loading all of the files on the drive to be accessed. Before I would have to wait a good couple minutes (keep in mind I’m using around 600-700GB of storage) for all of the files to be able to be opened. With this drive the load-up is completed in significantly less time.As I mentioned before, this drive comes with a USB-C cable, which has significantly improved ease-of-use, and has made it so I don’t have to carry around an extra adapter whenever I want to access my hard drive on my laptops. The size is also remarkably small. Coming from a hard drive that was bigger than my phone to one that is half the size of my phone, the drive fits easily in any laptop case I use. Not only that but it doesn’t heat up a lot and is silent the entire time I’m using it. 1TB is a lot of space, but I am looking to purchase another one of these drives for when I do run out of storage, simply based on its performance thus far. I hope this has been helpful!

Amazing mini portable SSD
I went with the RAVPower brand as I already have a number of power banks and wall chargers from them over the years that have served me well. I have found their customer services very helpful in the past.I purchased this mini external SSD as I was in need of portable storage that I can carry with me when travelling away for work. The mini size is perfect for my needs as this will hold my downloaded media content when I go on holidays as well. The drive is finished in a metal casing which will help protect it. The finish gives it a stunningly sleek and sexy look. I have bought this to use with my Android phone and Windows 10 laptop. Having tested on both the drive was easy to use and plug and play. It came with some proprietary encryption software but I haven't bothered using it.The packaging contains a couple of cables (USB C to C and USB C to A) , manual, warranty info and a carry case.Coming back to this item. The capacity is 1tb which is incredible given the size of the drive around 3 inches long. Slightly bigger than some USB sticks. RAVPower claim the SSD can achieve speeds up to 540mb/S. I tested the transfer of a number of my large files as you can see from the screenshots the speeds were not far from those advertised. I was getting Read speeds of around 399 mb/S and write speeds of around 367mb/S. Both pretty decent. To achieve these speeds, I had to use the USB C port on my laptop as opposed to the USB A port. The speeds are very impressive and I can transfer many GBs of data in a matter of seconds.Overall a great product which is easy to use and highly portable.

Impressive speeds and good value!
In a search for a small storage solution that offered fast speeds and versatility, I decided to purchase the RAVPower External SSD as showed good reviews and from a reputable brand which I have purchased from in the past. Upon arrival I was stunned by its packaging, very well presented and high quality from first impressions. I comes with the Type C - C cable as well as a USB A - Type C for those that want to use this SSD with older hardware, I used this on both my MacBook Pro and Windows PC without any issues!! Speeds wise, they are a little slower than the top spec external SSD from the likes of Samsung etc. however, it performs excellently! I transferred 10GB of videos within a couple of seconds, the fastest i've seen for external hardware by far.All in all, if you're looking for a reliable, solidly built SSD for a budget price, this is a high recommendation from me and I would be happy to purchase again if higher capacity options were available such as 2TB.

Slick, sexy, sleek tech. Cool minimal product, both before and after out of the box
Sleek and enjoyable experience using this product. Enjoying this more than previous Sandisk products I've had. When a company really delivers, it's like this product. Feels quality as soon as the box is in hand. Nice ribbon to open the box. The piano finish may be not for some but adds a touch of class. Neatly packaged, hardly any plastic. Both old and new usb wires are kindly provided. Great touch! The actual HD is so sleek. Some flash drives with smaller capacity are the same size. Good job on the design plus this is SSD. Silent when in use. Discreet white light when in use. SSD gets slightly warm in heavy use but not much considering what it goes through. Cool and silent most of the time. Read and write speeds very impressive in both Apple and Windows environments. Transmission speeds were slightly better in Windows if anything. Transferred 13gb in less than a minute on both mac and PC. Read and write speeds were approx 360 - 430MB/s. Fast! The dashboard screen that appears when drive is recognised after connecting it is cool and not too invasive. The password protection easy to set up. Amazing device, would buy again. The size and weight leaves people dazzled when I have been in the office or out meeting clients.
