These are good for tiny little leaks on the way to the potty. However, they would not be as absorbent as a nappy at night time.

Not sure if this helps but we ordered age 3 for our nearly 3 year old. She is slim and average height and weighs around 15kg. They fit her really well. So I’d say if your son is the size of maybe 4 years old i would go for size 4. They have lots of stretch in them too
