Kumon Pre-K & Up Creativity (Kumon Thinking Skills Workbooks)

Once I walked my 4 yr old through how to do a few pages, he was able to work on it by himself. Great for tracing and drawing practice.

Great learning tool

This is a little advanced for the stated age but it's still fun for my daughter.

This book is excellent for learning. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the pages don't tear out easily, and we enjoy tearing out and working on one page at at time.

Bought almost all the workbooks for my toddler girl

I love Kumon and their workbooks. This one, however, does not match its title. There are a lot of tracing and copying. It helps children with drawing, but not so much with creativity. We skipped a lot of the tracing and I had my child do his own thing on the blank images.

I used Kumon books with my older son and was so impressed at how much they helped his fine motor skills that I knew I would use them again with his younger sister when she was old enough. The Thinking Skills and Grow to Know lines weren't out when my son was using Kumon books so I thought I would order them and see if my 3.5 year old was ready for them now and if not I figured I would wait until she was ready. I am having trouble deciding on a rating for the Creativity book. The first 8 pages are tracing in a familiar outline for Kumon of tracing a picture from the dot to the star. Then it moves on to some pages of filling something in (like adding features to a blank face) but most of the book is tracing lines. I like the drawing what's missing pages because I think that's great practice for drawing in small steps. My concern is about the tracing pages. As you can see from the pictures the lines to trace are very thin. My 6 year old is writing very well and I am not sure if he could successfully trace these very thin lines. Unlike most Kumon products that work on incremental steps the lines do not start out larger and shrink as you go but are always very thin. I think colored pencils would be too thick for these lines. For this one I'm not sure that I would agree with this being a Pre-K book. I wish they had made the lines to trace larger or had more of the fill in what's missing pages.

I have bought 2 copies of this book for my twin 5yo daughters, which are in the end of their Reception class. Usually I am quite happy with KUMON series, but this one is not quite as good. As other reviewer mentioned, after about 10 pages children are asked to trace a lot of very thin white lines outlining objects on the page. This is both difficult and amazingly boring -- keep in mind, that they are supposed to outline two instances of identical pictures (the second picture may miss some details) and then color them. We do this with just one picture -- I cannot seriosly ask them to do the same tedious job twice. Otherwise, the book is still useful, both my daughters enjoyed drawing missing parts of the faces and objects, but I feel that book itself is not very well thoght through.
