OX Trade Plastic Finishing Trowel 16in / 405mm

First off I have to say I'm not a professional plasterer - and I doubt if an actual pro would use this to be honest. However I can plaster having learned over many years of house renovations and I can get a reasonable finish using an ordinary steel finishing trowel.But.. this makes it easier. Much easier.Because of the 'give' in the plastic where it overhangs the main support it makes polishing off the plaster as it dries just that bit easier and more forgiving. I certainly found it much easier to avoid the plough marks as I went over the surface.There are a couple of things to note one of which I think would make me look for alternatives. Firstly, being plastic it will wear and if you drop it or use it ham fisted then I suspect it would be possible to damage the plastic edge.More irritatingly is the handle. It's comfortable enough but it's quite smooth. Fine until you get it wet or end up with plaster on it - which is almost certain if you are using it overhead. Once wet or plaster covered you have to really grip hard to hold the trowel in the correct position or it will rotate over and dig in. After a short while even a strong bloke - and I would consider myself to be relatively so - finds one's hand aching.When using a wooden handled trowel I've never had that issue.Overall a reasonably priced way to get a good finish on a wall if you are not an expert (although you do need to know a bit) however, there are better alternatives out there which, I will buy for future work.

Ordered item came damaged returned the next 2 also came damaged so gave up and got money back. Would love to have tried it out as all my other Ox stuff is great.

I've been a plasterer for over 20 years and used numerous plastic trowels and this one is without doubt the biggest piece of rubbish I've had. If in doubt, get a better one.
