This product can only use bio ethanol gel despite what is recommended as an additional purchase selection. This was given as a gift along with 6 bottles of the bio ethanol liquid which meant it wasn’t usable until the correct fuel was purchased.

I thought this looked fab on their website. When it came I couldn’t use it as it doesn’t even come with the initial bioethanol, which for the price of the product, is shocking. My family also thought it was lovely but couldn’t believe the cost.I have now had it 3 days and don’t know what it looks like lit, as I am waiting for the pot to pour the fuel into (£9 extra) and the fuel (£12 perL extra) to arrive. This all took the shine off the product, it does say in the description that it doesn’t come with the initial fuel but I must have missed that. I am also worried about how easy the glass may break as it’s very thin. One end is also slightly narrower and some may force the glass down onto the stand- be careful, which end is the top and the bottom.I still love the look of it but I have another 6 days to wait to actually try the thing- (that’s when everything arrives). I may return but will have to wait and see.

We were a bit tentative about this one as it is a lot of money for a bioethanol lamp. However, i think it is work very penny. The build quality and packaging are second to none. It is very solid and beautifully constructed. And the flame effect is amazing. I have other bioethanol burners that have a visible flame about 10cm tall max. This one produces a vortex flame effect that can exceed 50cm. It is exactly like the video.Really like it. Suggest you use gel rather than liquid as the flame is slightly less sooty and doesn't go up as high. Just my preference......

We saw this product in a shop and then saw it on Amazon £10 cheaper. Amongst the sales pitch it first refers to being bioethanol-fuelled and then further down there is a passing reference to gel. However, the 'frequently bought together' shows a picture of the bioethanol liquid so what did I order? Very frustrating to receive the product and read that Hofats do not recommend using the liquid I have bought. Also, like JoJo I missed the fact you have to order the refill can. It is going to have to be a special occasion treat with the price and burning time of the gel. Still haven't had a chance to use it as I am waiting for the refill can and the gel. So feeling a bit disappointed at the moment. I'm not sure if the fault lies with Amazon or Hofats.

Everything from the box it’s comes in and the painstaking way it is packaged and presented to the craftsmanship and finish on the lantern itself is amazing. The first time we lit it we were blown away. Everyone likes watching a fire but the way the chimney effect and the spiral at the base make the flame spin is impressive. We brought ours to use on our garden furniture and it’s provides warmth, a lot of light and entertainment. If you want a well built and engineered lantern that stands out from the rest then give this a go.

The media could not be loaded.  Love this. We use it most nights just for the effect. We also bought a spare cup. This makes change-overs really simple.Things to note - the gel lasts about 80 minutes per cup, whereas the liquid lasts 40 minutes. The gel burns clean but the liquid we use leaves soot in the glass tube. The liquid gives off a bigger flame and greater heat. The gel also leaves residue in the cup that is hard to remove.Definitely highly recommended.

Very well made and a lovely light for indoors or out. However, I just can’t find the bio ethanol GEL in the UK at all. Hofats aren’t shipping to UK due to BREXIT at the moment.I’ve tried liquid bio ethanol but the flame is too powerful and the liquid quickly burns up. Hofats don’t recommend using liquid either
