Island Escape (The Isle of Man Romances Book 1)

Romance
I thought it was rather like a teenage romance. I expected much more about the history and less on eating, drinking, feeling 'full' and saying getting involved with blokes. So much repetition. Disappointing after reading a few Aunt Bessie books.

Good Easy Read
I was gifted a copy of this book by the Author for an honest review.I must say this is not my typical read but I thoroughly enjoyed it.The book is set on the Isle of Mann and provides a bit of history into the Island. I didn't realise how steeped in history the little Isle is. The descripted writing in this book is really good and you can visualise the scenes as you are readingThis is a story of self-discovery and self-belief. Katie is an American historian given the opportunity of a life time to go and research for 3 months on the Isle of Mann. The opportunity comes at a good time for Katie as her 10 year relationship has just failed.Katie finds herself on the Island, guarding her battered heart and having 2 men vying for her attention. This is a good, easy read.

Isle of Man and decisions
Island EscapeBy Diana XarissaI love to escape, especially to Scotland, or any surrounding island. But I'm not too keen on romances these days, so I was a bit hesitant in getting to this book in my growing "review" pile. I poured a spot of chocolate-flavored wine and settled in. Surprisingly, I was immediately drawn in to Katie's trip to the Isle of Man and learning about the history of the area. The author's sense of place and environment were realistic and sharply tuned. Seemingly minute details proved essential in bringing a rich tapestry of exposition and character development. The introduction of Mr. Romantic #1 was quite fun and meeting Mr. Romantic #2 even more so. Katie, our very likable protagonist, has quite a decision to make after a disastrous ending to her planned wedding with Mark. But pay attention to Ealish, the Institute's Assistant Director. There are some delicious secrets hidden behind those eyes and I hope to find out more in Book #2.Pulling myself away from the intriguing research, historical facts, and delightful Island tours, I wondered at the central conflict. A writer should ask, why today? Why is this story, at this time, so important? What does Katie want more than anything, and who is standing in her way? A protagonist must have a goal, and a struggle to reach that goal, complete with obstacles and an antagonist getting in the way. This is the essence of conflict. And that is what's missing in this story. However, we all need a break now and then to travel and see new places. Cross off a few things on your agenda, grab a light jacket and head out to the isle, and enjoy a couple of hot guys in pursuit. I've got my pick - which one would you choose?
