The game gives you a quiz that determines which Pokémon you will be. If you decided that you do not like the Pokémon given to you, you are then given the option to chose a different Pokémon.

How is this game different from Pokemon Saphire or Ruby?

This game is not base on the catching Pokemon, but you are a Pokemon. It's a RPG with some turn base thrown in there. It's fun the story is great. Nintendo is not going to give you a bad game and game freak doesn't make bad games. So for 40 buck it a but. Rate time 8/10 fun game play, good story, fun for all ages great holiday present.

Will the 2ds be able to play this game?

Yes, the 2DS was designed to play every 3DS game. The primary difference is the 2DS does not use have autostereoscopic 3D display as the 3DS does.

what is the difference between this Pokemon mystery dungeon game and the other, more expensive, Pokemon mystery dungeon, gates of infinity?

This is a sequel. It's an entirely different game, probably even better, though I haven't played Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. Gates to Infinity is a great game, though. If you want to get it, order it on the Nintendo eShop to save money.
