I'm no beginner, but this sure does make it easier to sharpen all manner of tools, especially chisels and plane blades. With the range of sizes it supports, I keep it in the middle of my work bench. And it holds the exact same angle, while switching from rough stone to extra fine grit sharpening stone.

The roller on this is not symmetrical so it undulates up and down. The hole in the roller is bored too large so the roller tops left an right. If you can imagine trying to sharpen a chisel while the blade is bouncing up and down and tilting left to right then you know it’s impossible to use. Disgusted I was sold such inferior quality not to mention it wasn’t stainless steel.

My chisels are tapered in the area where. The tools groove is straight.

The roller wheel actually wore out after a few uses on my diamond sharpening stone rendering the thing useless. Attempted to use on chisels and plane blades. Not so great for holding either. It's in the trash, not worth dealing with. Got another similar type that is better made and working well.

This item gripped the chisels well, that is the only good thing I can say about it. I fiddled with it for a long time and could not get it to hold the point down across the full width of the chisel. The roller was not drilled on center causing the chisel to rock up and down and I moved it forward and backward.
