Exact replacement
This is an exact replacement for the front drain plug of the 5th gen 4Runner. Toyota should have used the same bolt head type of drain plug they have on the rear diff and transfer case, but instead used this design. I’ve heard you can buy the Lexus (Toyota) version with the bolt head but I was unable to find the exact one and used this instead. They tend to strip easily, (hence my purchase) so during install I put anti seize on the threads to help prevent that from happening next time.

It fit
This drain plug serves it purpose. But not entirely sure it's a genuine Toyota part.

Perfect Fit
I got it just in case I mangled the differential plug taking it off of my 2007 FJ Cruiser. I had seen many videos where the plugs are rounded out and or are hard to get off. Fortunately, I did not need it, but I put it on nevertheless and now I have a spare plug.

Exact fit for a '99 4WD 4Runner
This went into the front diff in my 1999 4Runner Sport. Perfect fit of course. I had accidentally ordered it for my 1995 pickup's transfer case, for which it is NOT a fit at all. My bad. I later got the 4R and its front diff is where this goes. It is of typical (high) quality, works properly. Remember you need a huge 10mm hex socket to remove and install. I used a 3/8" drive socket and that was strong enough. If your existing plug hasn't been changed for a while, make sure to douse it with penetrant first, let that soak overnight, and then take care in removing it so you don't strip out the socket. To tighten, make sure to use the correct washer and torque it to only 20 ft-lbs.

There’s something Much Better
@Toyota: why on earth would you engineer this plug with a hex? These are notorious for getting stuck, and the hex gets stripped. I had to weld a 10mm hex bit onto the plug to get it out (destroying the plug). Should have made this the same drain plug as the rear diff. There’s a much better option for the front diff: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0BB66JPK6?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Works great, dumb design
This drain plug fits my 2015 Toyota Tacoma front differential perfectly. Had to chisel my old one out because I stripped the inside. Planning to tack weld a flange nut in the face of the old plug and reuse it because this new one will eventually strip as well.
