Comet CM-C-120 12 Sheet Cross Cut Paper Shredder - Shreds CD/DVD, Credit Cards, Staples - Quiet (5.3 Gallon)

It`s good to have a shredder around. This shredder works OK. Sometimes it gets jammed and if the reverse doesn't Work on pushing the papers back up then you have to pull the papers out and put it back in the shredder again. The on/off/reverse switch feels loose. The light always lights up to notify us if basket is full but it lights up when it`s only half way full. It won't let us continue shredding unless we empty the basket or push the shredded papers down in the basket which allows you to shred a couple more papers. The shredder has wheels at the bottom and you can also lock it from moving around.

Purchased item in late December, used only once, to shred a couple of mailing labels from envelopes.Then I was sick most of Jan with the flu therefore the mailed piled up to a nice size but tookonly 30 minutes to completely shred. Didn't use it at all in Feb and now in Marchafter about an hour of shredding....broken. I would shred only 2-3 pages at a timeoff and on for an hour. Dumped out the bin about 4 times, I was down to the lastbit when it refused to turn back on.DO NOT BUY!!

I recently received my new Comet CM-C-120, 12 sheet cross cut paper shredder. This new unit will replace my Tech Solutions TS-8000, which was an awesome shredder that served me faithfully for 12 years. A week ago my TS-8000 abruptly stopped working and some troubleshooting determined the electronics finally gave out. My TS-8000 shredder had a super heavy motor and gear assembly and easily handled up to 12 sheets of paper, credit cards, and CDs. I was very sad when it died and I could no longer find the company that manufactured it.Based on many favorable reviews of various Comet shredders, I thought I would give this model a try as it should handle up to 12 sheets, as did my old unit. The Comet shredder was very well packaged with a double cardboard pack and Styrofoam in the inner box and was received one day ahead of the promised date range.The first thing I noticed about the Comet C-120 was that it was not nearly as heavy as my old Tech Solutions TS-8000, in fact it felt about 15 pounds lighter which leads me to believe the motor and gears will not last me as long as my old one. Also the paper shreds are a little larger than my old unit, but adequate.Cons: The ON/OFF/REV switch is very flimsy and seems ready to break off and feels very loose and difficult to move it to the center OFF position as it wants to jump to the ON or REV positions. The paper feed slot is not tapered inward enough to guide the paper so feeding paper sheets into it is difficult to align them to the slot. You must push the paper deep into the slot for the shredder to grab it. The shedder holding basket is a little difficult to remove and align to re-insert.Pros: Shredding is quiet and unit handles CDs and credit cards with ease.As I have used this new shredder for only a day, I will give it 4-star based on the Cons and will update it later should I deem it necessary.Update: July 28, 2012. I've decided to downgrade this shredder to 3-stars. Having used it for a month now, the frustration of trying to align paper into the narrow slot is extremely aggravating. Had the slot been enlarged or had a more downward taper to guide the paper to be shredded this could have been a decent shredder.

This Comet Paper Shredder has worked for me just exactly as advertised. I oil it with Fellows Shredder Oil regularly as prescribed by the Manufacturer and it just keeps on going. It is quiet and does a very good job on shredding documents with staples, CD/DVDs and old credit cards. I would not hesitate to buy another if the need arises. It works well in my home office. I recommend it to anyone looking to shred sensitive billing statements and other documents with personal information.

This shredder is just okay reason I say that is it has a very short electrical cord on it. I also tryed to put 12 bank statements in it when I received it and it jammed so I would only recommend about 10. as for the above review about the slot for the paper being extremely small they are exactly correct it is very small you need to line your sheets up or it will pull on one side the reverse on it to undo a jam seems weak to me, but it does work. Reason I purchased this one was the pull out drawer for emptying it. That is great I have back issues and the constantly lifting on the others was hard for me and it would drop paper shreds all over when you took it off this drawer is flimsy but works biggest problem I find is it puts the shredded paper into a peak so you have to open drawer push it down so you do not have to empty it every 5 minutes. I am still happy with my purchase I did get a square trade warranty just as a backup but with the price of the machine being so low I did not mind getting the warranty backup. It comes packaged very well double boxed and in styrofoam the packaging is heavier than the machine hahaha it is also quieter than my fellowes was.

I got this home and it worked good 1 day. Now it doesn't run continuous when your shredding just one piece of paper. I was suckered in thinking this was a good product. Don't buy!

The C-120 arrived amazingly well-packaged, but the first one had a defect. The actuator tab inside the basket is very thin and had broken off. It was lying at the bottom of the basket. We discovered it when the shredder wouldn't operate. Comet replaced the shredder and the 2nd one operated fine. We just have to be VERY careful when opening and removing the basket so the tab doesn't break. The shredder shreds well but is very noisy and not very smooth when it operates. It also has a red light that stays lit whenever it is turned to the ON position. Our last shredder had no light so we could leave it in the AUTO position and just walk up and shred a piece of paper when we needed to. With this shredder, because I don't want the red light light constantly burning, I have to turn it on and off each time I use it. Also, in the ON position, the shredder operates only when a piece of paper is inserted - there is no option for continuous run. Kind of annoying for larger jobs.
