Clematis are a well know and very widely planted species of vigorous climber that are widely distributed around the world. There are many forms and hybrids in cultivation almost all grown for their amazing flowers. In general Clematis like to be planted in full sun but with shaded roots. A fertile moist well drained soil will give best results but in truth they are seldom very fussy! Clematis Piilu is a large flowered hybrid. The stunning flowers are a two tone pink with double, semi double and single all on the same stem and produced in abundance from May to June and September. For best result cut back old growth to strong new buds about 30cm above ground level in early spring just as growth begins. After the first summer flowers have finished remove the dead heads. Pruning group 2. Can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot or container. Requires a frame work of some description to twine around. These Clematis should be cut back to around 30cm above ground level in early spring. When growing in a pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots.
