Still awesome, 3 years on!
I often work late nights and need to sleep past sunrise, which in my area can be as early as 2:20 a.m. in the summer! I got this to replace an old sleep mask that was sadly no longer being made, and found that this one was even superior to my old standby. I really can't say enough about it, and this is after using it daily for three years, traveling with it, and even running it through the occasional wash cycle! (It can come apart during washing, but is easily glued or pressed back together). But what makes this mask really special and effective, is that it not only blocks out all light (the first mask I've ever used to do that 100%), but also allows you to keep your eyes open. Now, uhm, I don't keep my eyes open while I sleep! But the point is, there is no actual pressure of any kind on your eyelids, like most or all other sleep masks. This makes for a totally comfortable night's rest, or just a moment to "duck out of it all" for example on a plane, while meditating, or whatever, because when adjusted right it provides total blackness. It also does an amazing job of helping me sleep when I have those seemingly endless moments of insomnia. When your eyes are open, but it's pitch dark all around you and you're lying down, it's amazing how fast your body gets the hint and signals your brain to sleep. So that's helpful as well: it makes me sleepy, then keeps me asleep by blocking out early morning light, or the eerie glow of all our modern electronic gizmos. When my old standby sleep mask went out of production, and mine had worn out, I tried a big handful of sleep masks via Amazon, searching in frustration for something that worked and helped me stay asleep. I almost passed on this one, because of the gimmicky name on the front. But I'm glad I took the plunge, as this mask is by far the best and the only one that is 100% effective, AND doesn't put pressure on my eyelids. I can't recommend it enough. Hope it works for you just as well as it works for me.

Compared to Manta - Mindfold Wins
I have been sleeping with a blindfold/sleep mask for probably at least 15 years. I’ve used bandanas and home made ones and anti-puffiness ones and the kind of “beauty sleep” masks you can get at the drug store but they tend to have a whole host of various problems (slides off, elastic wears out fast, doesn’t block all light, rubs the eyelid/lifts the eyelid leaving a sore dry eye in the morning sometimes...) I saw an ad for manta and thought the price tag was too high for a trial so I came here looking for a cheaper alternative to see if it might be worth switching to a mask with padded “holes”. I haven’t been using this product more than a couple months and it shows considerable... warping is probably the best word, but it still works great and I can comfortably open my eyes when wearing it and it’s a total blackout and I’m not scraping my eyes on fabric or anything. I even had one instance where I was awoken suddenly and forgot I had the mask on and I thought the power went out as there were NO lights on anywhere til I realized it was the mask! I figured with the condition that the front plastic and foam were in maybe it was time to “upgrade” to an actual manta. Got that in the mail today (pictured alongside my used mindfold for comparison) and getting that has greatly increased my feelings about the mindfold mask. The foam changed shape and there are noticible dimples on the plastic but the eye hole size is perfect (much larger than the manta) and it delivers its promise of not hitting the eye (which after adjusting my “fully customizable” manta I can say that at least for me, I can’t get it to not hit my eyelids and opening my eyes when wearing it is not comfortable AT ALL) Will absolutely be continuing to purchase this product from now on when I need a new mask! Personally have not run into issues with noticing the plastic front piece hitting my cheeks or anything, and even with the weird stretching of the foam it still blocks all light. I do have a round relatively flat face though which may be a factor with the plastic bit.

Overpriced but functions well
Overpriced for such simple construction, it is foam glued to a piece of plastic. The plastic is strangely larger than the foam. The foam is perfectly soft and blocks out light well, but not recommended if you have a latex sensitivity. It is light and comfortable (except for the oversized plastic edges). This should be at most $5.

Absolute Junk and Non-Refundable - BUYER BEWARE!!
There is nothing I like about this product - it is cheapest, crappiest thing I have ever bought on this site and it is built to be defective. First, the "faceplate" material is hard plastic with SHARP edges that protrude over the foam - I assume this is to create the blackout effect. If you are a side-sleeper like me this thing will dig into your skin as you try to sleep. As soon as you turn to the side the protruding edge will force the whole mask to slip position, and the edges can then cut your face as you sleep. This is not only defective but absolutely a danger to sleep with. Who puts hard sharp plastic on their face before bed?!? What sadist thought of this????? Second, the "cushion" is the cheapest possible lightweight foam you can find. Think packing material, only thinner. This mask is literally just cheap foam glued directly to hard plastic. My kid could make it in arts and crafts. And the foam is what is in direct contact with your face - there is no material covering it at all. So if you wear creams to bed, the large pores in the foam will soak it right in. Try cleaning that out; this foam is so thin and cheap and poorly made it will just deteriorate the first time you try to wash it. The glue will separate. You can't wash this. So instead you have a soaked up foam petri dish of bacteria waiting to sit on your face for 8 hours a night. Disgusting. Finally, the holes that allow you to "open your eyes" seem to be cut to fit a child's face, not a grown person. I am a 120 pound female and this thing way too small to cushion my eyes properly. I can't imagine the fit on a grown man. It was so uncomfortable I had to take it off after only a few minutes. The sides of the "cushion" sit ON the edges of my eyes. It is literally impossible to sleep with this thing. Sure, I can open them and yes, it's total darkness, but that is only because the cushion is literally COVERING a portion of my eyes and the part that is not covered is staring at hard plastic. I can't imagine this thing costs more than a few pennies to make in China, it is truly overpriced garbage. I feel conned into buying it, I stupidly took the advice a podcaster I listen to and bought this junk over the eye mask I usually get - never again. If you want a truly comfortable mask that is washable, durable, well-made, extremely cushioning and comfortable, AND also allows you to open your eyes while you sleep, get the one I normally buy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KC5DWCC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's a little pricier but worth it. I've also used this one below, which also allows room to open your eyes and is just as well made as the one above, but is the same price as this piece of "Mindfold" junk: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HVRNXZQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. You will be forever grateful I saved you from the junk that is this product..

This is a great sensory deprivation mask
This is a great eye mask for relaxing the mind. The MindFold was actually created to be a sensory deprivation tool used for meditation. Hence the name "Mind"+"Fold". It's designed for relaxing the mind. This is how I use it. I do not sleep with it. So I cannot comment on it's use as a sleep mask. Here's a quick rundown of the pros and cons. Pros: * Capable of 100% light blockage * The foam is soft * The stretchable headband's Velcro doesn't connect at the back of the head * There's so much eye room depth, my eyelashes (which are long) don't even slightly touch it Cons: * While very deep, the eye cutouts could be a little wider * Light leakage can happen if it slides a little while using it * Needs to be fairly tight to totally prevent light leakage I've tried dozens of similar eye masks, the only other eye mask that I've tried that's a close second is the Bedtime Bliss. I have heard that the Tempur-Pedic Sleep Mask is the only eye mask that's as effective, but I've not tried that yet. Compared to the Bedtime Bliss, this is capable of blocking out all light, while the Bedtime Bliss only blocks about 90-95% of the light. For both me and my wife, the Bedtime Bliss had a large amount of light leakage near the nose, no matter how it was positioned or tightened. We have very different noses. My nose is large and pointy, hers is wide and short. The problem with the Bedtime Bliss is that, while it contours to a "human" face, it will only properly contour to a certain percentage of people, and for the rest of us, it just doesn't work right, but it is still much better than most of the other masks I've tried, except for the Mindfold. I have read complaints about the fact that the Mindfold is just a Velcro headband, attached to a flexible plastic eye shield, with foam glued to it. This is in fact what it is, but it is very effective nonetheless. The design is simple and it works very well. The Mindfold's thick foam contours to just about any face very effectively. That's why it works so well to block out light. While it's not memory foam like the Tempur-Pedic Sleep Mask is, the foam still works quite well for it's purpose. It would work with less force needed if it was made of the more expensive memory foams available. But that would jack up the price considerably. The Velcro strap is not a cheap strap. It's high quality stretchable Velcro. The strap is better quality than most. The Bedtime Bliss has a lower quality strap, and it is not replaceable. The Bedtime Bliss strap joins at the back of the head, so you always feel a lump on the back of your head when you lay your head flat on a pillow. The MindFold's strap is replaceable, so I could put a different strap if I wanted to. Also, it joins on the side, and not on the back, so you don't feel a lump at the back on your head. If you lay down with the back of your head on a pillow, it's very comfortable. You don't even notice the strap. Not so with the Bedtime Bliss. That's something I hate about the Bedtime Bliss. The flexible plastic eye shield is thin. You can easily flex it with your hands. This is intentional, and not done to be cheap, as some have suggested. It needs to be thin, so it can flex just enough to contour to your face to a certain degree. If it was a thick inflexible piece of plastic, it wouldn't work as well because it then wouldn't contour to different face shapes and sizes. I have heard complaints that the MindFold is not useful for side sleepers. I could definitely see that being the case. However, that is not it's intended use. Bottom line, this is one of the most effective light blocking eye masks you can find. If you're looking for a mask that completely blocks out light, that lets you open your eyes without your lashes touching it, then this is a great buy. The Tempur-Pedic Sleep Mask is also a viable solution, according to many other sources, but it costs 3 times as much. Nearly all of the other eye masks let in light. But if you're looking for a sleep mask for a side sleeper, try something else.

tried and true for over 10 years
This is the best sleep mask I've ever found.. There are still pros and cons to it.. The drawback is that the foam can insulate heat, and your eyes can get sweaty after a full night of use. Also, the foam will start to deteriorate after about a year or so, so they don't last forever. I have never noticed any issues with the construction of the mask, such as sharp ridges. And while the mask is slightly oversized for my petite frame, the velcro closure is adjustable...so its not too snug, and not too loose... Some real pluses with this mask is that it blocks out 100% light, and you can still blink your peepers!! Not a seam or thin spot, you can use this in direct sunlight, and still not see a spec. It is very lightweight...no pressure on the nose ridge AT ALL. While sleeping on your side does press on the foam, i don't find this trait to be very much different from most eye masks in this regard. .but the front of this mask is a strong plastic, so it would feel different than an all cloth sleep mask when rolling over. I appreciate the sturdy plastic, making it easy to find in the middle of the night based on touch, not light!!! The velcro closure is made correctly..no scratch on your head or hair.. Also, no gross chemical smell.

Comfortable total blackout mask--one of my travel essentials
My fav travel accessory. I had one and couldn't find it so bought this one for a recent trip. On a plane, train, car, or a room without blackout blinds, if I put this mask on and put in some earplugs, I am guaranteed to fall fast asleep. It completely blocks all light but there are little holes in the foam for your eyes, so you can open them and still just see nothing but black. It weighs next to nothing and folds, so it's a travel essential for me.

This mask is wonderful, it completely hide all light which is great for someone like me, that's a bit claustrophobic. I have to have a Brain MRI every couple of years and this is fabulous. At my last MRI the Doctor asked me for the information about how I bought it, as it's got no metal in it and is great for going into the machine. I have nothing but good things to say about this Mask.
