Just be aware of a confusing limitation
I purchased my Marantz NR1602 in 2011 and it was time for an upgrade - especially since I had purchased a 4K LG TV last year. Even though I have a 5.2 system, I prefer the NR16xx series because of the additional video processing/upscaling. This time around paying $749 for the NR1608 felt a bit too pricey, and really, with everything starting to do 4K native, I thought that I would see how things went with an AVR that was just handling video switching instead of processing/upscaling. So because the price point was decent and Yamaha makes a nice quality AVR, I decided to give the RX a try.It looks clean. It sounds fine. I like the various DSP modes to play around with. No issues with operation. The usual complaints about Yamaha AVRs: The web interface is primitive, and doesn't allow for simple things - such as input assignment, renaming, or hiding/showing. Some of that is addressed in the iPhone app, but really seems that Yamaha wants you to use their remote to setup the RX. Their room EQ software doesn't do so well with the subwoofer part. That's fine - nothing that hasn't been covered in every other review.... and not like I am constantly in the setup screens or tweaking my speaker setup. So to the meat of it - why I am going to return it: while the RX has 6 HDMI inputs, only input 6 has support for HDCP 2.2. Why Yamaha chose to go this direction is up for speculation. As a consumer looking for a 4K AVR, paying for 5 out of the 6 HDMI inputs to not support the current standard seems just a bit silly. Btw, shout out to World Wide Stereo for quickly responding to my questions when trying to figure this out.So to sum up: nice receiver, but the arbitrary limitation of having just a single HDCP2.2 port was the deal killer for me.

Great streaming music device.
I was looking for a unit to stream music, not watch tv. I needed a slim receiver for the space. I’ve had this for a month now and while I worry it doesn’t have the absolute latest and greatest, atmos etc., it does what I bought it for, access to literally days and weeks of commercial free music. I used to enjoy sirius but now they even talk between songs, this receiver gets me back to what I want, hours of uninterrupted music.

Great Little Compact Receiver
LOVE this receiver!!! This replaced a Sony unit, which I've owned several Sony's over the years, but I'm so happy I made the switch to Yamaha. This little compact unit has all the bells and whistles for the price and more. The instructions are easy to follow plus you can use your mobile devices tooperate the unit. I would recommend to anyone who would listen...

Small footprint, absolutely perfect.
Absolutely perfect. Setup was as easily as downloading the APP from the Apple Store, and following directions. You have to set up the system as directed but nothing could be simpler.Sound is full, clear, and easy on these old ears.Switching between various HDMI components is simple. So, I'm still on the learning curve. I want to set up the bluetooth to play through the system and send movies to an iPad. All orchestrated viaa teenager. Who else can navigate through these new complicated systems?I can heartily recommend the Yamaha systems.

Good product. Would buy again
Good product. Got this for the size and the multi-zone (party mode) feature. Needed a short receiver for media center and this one fit the bill. A year later and still going strong.

Enjoyed so far
Have used for a few months now and still impressed with all the features and options. Picked for the good selection of inputs, the DACs, and modest power. Mostly use to listen from cable tv (hdmi), bluray (hdmi), airplay (wifi), fm radio, and internet radio. Usually use the app to control over wifi, even turn on/off. Sounds nice to me with two towers and subwoofer setup. Did a wifi firmware update, hoping Yamaha continues to support when airplay, internet radio, or other sources evolve.

Great sound, set up challenges
Love the receiver. My issues may be user induced but as I switch from one input to another I have issues with sound. This either in the form of mode chosen (5 channel v 2 channel v cinema v game and so on) or no sound at all. I’ve tried the set up but still having issues. Overall great sound and the home theater has never sounded so good!
