Simple Wealth, Inevitable Wealth (3rd Edition) Hardcover – January 1, 2008

Most of what’s in this book is advice that was given to me when I started my first job out of college 32 years ago. I worked my marbles off during those years and dollar cost averaged everything I could save in the market. I’m now retired at 59 and living my dream life in South Florida on the water. God willing and the creeks don’t rise, our family should be set for life. Nevertheless, there are a few lessons I learned from reading this book, which was given to me by a 40 year old retiree, that had I know way back when, I would have doubled my savings. I’m dead serious. Thankfully it’s not too late as we still have 20-30 years to keep our savings working for us and hopefully leave a nice nest egg for our kids and their kids. One of these lessons, hiring a professional financial advisor who I trust, was just completed. The next is to move to a 90% or more equities only position from my 50/50 equities to bond ratio today. Yes, sounds nuts, right? Not after you read the book and I know for a fact based on my own personal performance over the past 30 years that had I adopted such a position, I would have almost doubled my saving. I’m also convinced that with 2 years worth of income in a safe place (ie CDs or Money Market fund), everything else should be in equities. Failure to do so just ensures my money loses value over time to the creeping tentacles of inflation. Read the book and save yourself a lifetime of mistakes. Many more lessons in it that I unfortunately learned the hard way. This man is a Godsend to humanity. I thank him from the bottom of my heart and wallet.

I enjoyed this book very much. While it's a fun and quick read, the lessons are eternal. The value of a buy and hold, long-term investment strategy cannot be over emphasized. As a die-hard Vanguard index investor, this book reiterated to me the need to stay the course in an extremely volatile market. I highly recommend it.
