Winco Coiled Spring Extra Heavyweight Stainless Steel Utility Tong, 12-Inch

I've tried other variation of Winco Tongs. Do not order anything, but EXTRA HEAVYWEIGHT option. These are the best and the price difference is negligible.

I was a chef in restaurants and catering companies, so it may be strange to hear me go on and on about tongs, of all things, like who cares? When you are actually cooking on the stove, the grill, the smoker, or in the oven, tongs get used over and over and over to stir, flip, grab, move, add to....well, you will understand why a great pair of tongs are such a wonderful thing! After 12 years, the spring on my extra heavy duty pair of tongs gave up the ghost, no doubt as a direct result of constant use, and I was really worried that I would not be able to find as good a replacement or that it would be expensive. I got these Winco tongs a month ago, and so far, they are super! As always, time will tell how well they hold up. A few thoughts about tongs. Get extra heavy duty ones like these that don't twist or bend - never get thin or flimsy ones. I feel that 8" tongs are too short to keep your hand far enough away from high heat sources. 12" tongs are the ideal length for me. Every time I see some goober guy, out by his grill with those 18" long, wood handle barbeque tongs, with the serrated, angled edges, the thin tongs that bend and twist, I cringe and then ask the goober if they got them for a present. They don't quite understand that it is a dig...I figure that they don't know how to grill very well either. How annoying that a couple of small cranium people bought this model and did not look to see that it does not have a clip to lock it closed. Then they turn around and blame the manufacturer, instead of putting the blame where it belongs, on their tiny brain....

Seem of restaurant or commercial quality. Would/will purchase again. We always handwash them so I don't know what the dishwasher would do to the tongs or spring.

I bought two of these tongs. They work great inside or outside on the grill.

Seriously heavy duty. These are built to last a lifetime if not several lifetimes. If you’re looking for tongs that won’t bend and will actually grip whatever you’re picking up these are the ones. They don’t have a lock to keep them closed but that’s not a problem for me.

These are excellent tongs! Well made and solid. Will surely last a very long time. Only thing preventing a 5-star review is that there's no ring or locking mechanism to keep them closed when not in use, making storage a bit of a pain. Otherwise, nearly perfect. Def recommend.

As you can see in my picture, the handles are just a folded over piece of flat metal that creates an open channel all the way from the clamshells to the end where the spring is. I was using these tongs to take out some food from a pot of hot oil. As I tilted the tongs slightly past the horizontal, hot oil from the clamshell end ran up the channel in the handle and out the end where the spring, burning my hand. Also, it's next to impossible to properly clean the channels in the handle. Maybe I'll try and get my money back but I've already used them. Don't buy these tongs.
