ToshibaP300 Desktop PC Hard Drive 6 TB

It's not the fastest drive in the world, but as the price it's a terrific bargain for applications that do not need blistering speed.

[Toshiba P300 6TB]This drive and it's 4TB version are shingled magnetic recording (SMR) drives which are supposedly slower than non-SMR drives, but certain drive capacities cannot be attained easily and cost-effectively using non-SMR technology, so for the most part there's not much choice.I bought the drive to use to backup by NAS drive, having previously bought a Seagate external drive and finding it to be poor quality as far as the casing, power and USB connectors were concerned. Granted this drive by itself is the same price as a Seagate or WD external drive so I had to factor in the cost of an external USB3 drive enclosure, but for the extra 20 quid, I've got a quality aluminium drive enclosure which helps keep the disk cool, and the power and USB connectors are much better quality, the latter being a standard USB type B connector so no fiddling about with the relatively flimsy and very short connectors supplied with external drives from WD and Seagate.As mentioned, the drive does seem pretty slow but I reckon that'd be the same for other drives of comparable capacity and I rate the quality of Toshiba HDDs as better than Seagate and Western Digital. I wouldn't recommend using this as a drive in your PC system, unless it's dedicated to backing up data, because the write speeds do seem noticably slower than with small capacity drives. Seeing as I've bought it for backing up my NAS, which can be left alone to get on with backing up, the write performance isn't too much of any issue for me and I'm happy to get a 6TB drive for about £115.

Que quede bien claro que no estoy valorando la calidad del disco duro. Solo voy a valorar el nivel de protección que tenía el disco duro para protegerse de los golpes que ha recibido durante el envío. Y ya se sabe con qué poco cariño tratan las empresas de paquetería las cajas o paquetes. Siempre llegan con golpes o rotas. Es bien conocido que los HDD al ser dispositivos mecánicos de precisión requieren de unos cuidados exquisitos durante toda su vida. Bueno, pues yo he recibido otros artículos de Amazon mucho menos delicados, mucho mejor protegidos. Este disco duro venía en un fino sobre de cartón, además de la habitual envoltura antiestática de fábrica, que no sirve para proteger de los golpes. Ya veremos cuánto tiempo funciona el disco duro. En definitiva, la protección del HDD en el envío ha sido desastrosa.
