Singing Machine SML-383 Portable CDG Player Karaoke Machine, Black

I bought this machine to have around the house. The price was excellent, and when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised at it's versatility. It is quite easy to use and has a feature on it that allows one to mute and sing over the vocal sound of a regular CD. It hooks up to the television so one can view lyrics if you have a karoake CD, however, I have not done this yet. I assume it will work as fine as the rest of the machine. The disco light feature is corny,at best, but kids seem to like it. The sound quality of the machine is fair to good. It has more features and is of much better quality than a Memorex machine I bought previously that cost more and broke within 3 uses. I anticipate that with care, this machine will last a while. We really enjoy this machine and I just bought an extra microphone so we can do duets!

We had no issues with this karaoke machine. What we did have issues with was that it doesn't work with ALL TVs that are HDTV. Check your tv! You must have the red, yellow, and white outputs in order to use this machine. If not, you may need a modulator or converter. The machine is perfect and simple if you have older devices! If you have a new flat screen LED/LCD with newer theater system or DVD/BLURAY, don't get this unless you want the added expense of add-ons to get it to even work. After you do, you may end up sacrificing quality. It's a shame! I'd say this is a good child/teen gadget and it's perfect if you don't need to use lyrics on a screen. We have small children who need and want to see the lyrics. We'll be finding something else and most likely because of progressive technology, it may be expensive...ugh! I miss the simple days...

The Singing Machine is great! It comes with 2 sample discs with 20 songs each, and if you go to the singing machine website, you can buy songs from there. The sound isn't a problem.It is loud enough, but you can use the Tv volume too if you like. The lyrics are great! The only thing is once when we put the microphone too close to our mouth acciently, it makes a loud noise and the words scrambled but we fixed that problem by turning it off for about an hour. The microphone they gave us works fine. It is actually pretty loud. We have it in our basement but we can hear it upstairs. The disco lights are so much fun!I would definetly recommend this item!!!

Aside from low volume, this is an average product. It is an adequate product for the price if you want a toy for your child. The volume and microphone quality keep it from being a four star product.Pros:* It does what it says it will* It plays CDs (tried some Disney CD+Gs)* The video hook-up for lyrics works* The microphone works* My kid is happy* I have not experienced anything that I would classify as a manufacturer defect.* If you need a lot of volume you can hook the RCA output to a stereo system.Cons:* The unit volume is pretty low so you need to max-out the microphone and master volume knobs so you can hear yourself.* The speakers are directional so you either need to be directly in front of the unit or in a small room to be able to hear your voice well.* The microphone quality is not that great so there is low input together with low output which reduces volume.Notes:For anyone saying that the power cord is too loose, you must not be pushing the cord into the unit far enough. The fit is snug so you may not realize you can push it farther.

This system is a lot of fun for my 5yr old & myself to sing together. We can hear our voices & music very good thru the speakers. I bought the "Singing Machine SMM-205 Dynamic Karaoke Microphone with 10.5 foot Cord" also from Amazon so we could sing together.We also use this system to practice speeches, bible verses for speaking at Church, & pretending like we are cops using a CB system :-) Way cool system for the price since we use it for other things than just singing.The neon lights are very cool also when the room lights are dim!

My kids were so excited to plug this in and start singing. It worked perfectly, just as described. We even plugged in a second microphone and hooked the machine up to our TV and surround sound speakers. Everything played through both the home theater speakers as well as the Singing Machine's speakers. The kids loved the lights and having the lyrics on the television. However, after only a few songs, the burning smell that came out of the machine was terrible! Not just the hot plastic smell of a new, cheap product getting plugged in for the first time, but the distinct smell of smoke and I am certain that something something inside the machine was burning. We immediately unplugged it and packaged it up for return. Now I can't exchange it for a new one because it is not being offered by Amazon and it is almost twice as much money from the other vendors. So disappointed!!
