It should stop most of it. Make sure that the fridge is not touching anything along side of it.

I want to put this under my hvac. but at 4" square i would need several of them. do they lock together at all to form a bigger square?

No they don't lock together. I bought 4 of them and put them at the 4 corners of my AC unit and it helped the vibration/noise transmitted a lot.
