A Guide to the Basics of Filmmaking
At first I thought this book was a simplistic approach to the film industry, but the further I read the more I saw it wasn't. You're a young filmmaker starting out? Get this book! There's probably no question it doesn't answer as it is rife with technique. I'm sure you can probably go deeper but for a first look at the film industry it delivers. It has lots of forms, schedules, breakdowns, a journeyman's guide. The only drawback for me was the coffee-table size of the book, hard to hold while reading in bed.

Unreadable due to the text going to the extreme left side of each page. Just why?
The information are precious though. Just bad printing practice.

Really Basic
It seems unlikely that anyone would decide to enter the movie making business without a little knowledge of how it works (although I have met a few socially minded folks who told me they wanted to become documentary film makers without any idea what's involved). It's more likely they would have had a little experience with film making before deciding on making movies as a career choice. Still, most beginners would probably lack some experience of all the diverse trades and crafts involved. This book is aimed at them.At the very least, it provides the kind of background that will keep a tyro from getting in the way of anyone on the set. For example, it describes the word for word script of call and response between assistant director, sound recordist, assistant cinematographer and director when shooting actually starts. The book touches on script writing, producing, directing, cinematography, lighting, audio and editing. It is suited for someone who is considering entering the business, either directly or perhaps, as a student in film school. While it appears to accurately and clearly describe the various tasks in the making of a film, it is at such a simple level that the aspirant would do well to read other books with more detail and explanation. For a single shooter or loan wolf there is just not enough depth to learn anything practical.Given the simple level of technique discussed, this book will probably appeal to a very limited audience.Note: The publisher provided me with a review copy of this book at no charge.

Basics of filmmaking
Got this book in 2029 good basics on scripting and editing good length 170 pages biggest flaw was the high price at £28 very informative reading and goes well along. Side cinematography for directors 2nd edition at 300 pages for under £20 good on theory and approaching the repetitive tasks like editing and good new book.
